Stayed one night on way home from Scotland. After spending a couple of previous nights in a B&B (for first time ever), was very disappointed with the poor value offered. The room was very small, the ensuite not much bigger than a cupboard and a noise like a car engine running outside your window throughout the night made for a less than favourable stay. This coupled with the fact it was twice the cost of the B&B then it wasn't the best end to a long weekend away.
On a positive note, breakfast was very good - one of the better buffet style breakfasts that these type of hotels seem to offer these days, so this improved the rating a little and, in fairness, it was very handy for the city centre and key attractions.
However, it was a good thing that we only stayed one night - and this experience doesn't encourage a return!

I stayed in a delux room recently which was perfectly pleasant. Decent sized room and bathroom, quality toiletries and excellent location. I will stay again.
Only negative is that the mattress was bullet proof and TV reception was poor due to scaffold cladding the front of the building. Not insurmountable

My husband and I stayed for one night together with our dog and we found the place convenient providing a standard quality of stay with no bad surprises. The size of the room is average for double occupancy and the bed was comfortable. There was tea/coffee set in the room (but no mini bar), and a safe box.

Since most of tourist attractions are in the city centre, we could walk to everywhere we went (e.g. York Minster, Railway Museum, Shambles, and of course Clifford's Tower which is in front of the hotel), and it was convenient to come back to walk our dog during the day too. It was also convenient that we could park the car at their parking space (Valet parking).

Staff at the restaurant were very observant and they were very attentive to our needs.

The amenities were quite basic (soap, shampoo, body soap, etc, no bathrobe, no slippers(though they were given to us upon our request)). The gym and the swimming pools are not located in the same building.

One thing I felt they should look into improving to meet the minimum standard is the shower pressure, which was little bit weak.

We stayed 2 nights for a conference and found it to be comfortable and welcoming. Staff especially pleasant and efficient, especially the egg order chef at breakfast. Restaurant meal was fine as well. We resented the cost of wifi in rooms but seemed good value overall. Good location but the whole city centre is walkable.

We have stayed at this hotel at least five times. Each visit shows tiny changes. Reduction in quality of toiletries, smaller loo paper, less choice and quality at breakfast. This year we were given a double room when a double double was booked. Although corrected it was another annoying little problem. So nothing major but just a slow decline.
