Just spent a weekend at the Hilton York. Although it was clean and bright, there were very few of the facilities that you would expect of a Hilton, no swimming pool or leisure facilities, very small bar and restaurant.
The restaurant at breakfast time was very busy and disorganised. The queues for hot food could have been avoided by having fried and poached eggs on the buffet, rather than having to wait for them to be individually cooked (only one member of staff to do this). One morning the restaurant was completely full and we were accommodated in their overflow area (in their american style diner).
On the positive side, the location of the hotel is excellent, directly across the road from Clifford Tower and the Museum and just round the corner from the main shopping area. Also there are some good restaurants within a very short walk of the hotel.
I would stay there again, purely because of the location but it would have to be at a very good price due to the limited facilities this hotel has.More
