We had a out side chalet which suited us fine come and go without going into main hotel as we were out late both nights Very clean and staff friendly breakfast was good close to city and train station 15 min walk or £5 by taxi we would return to this hotel as it ticked all the boxes

Firstly, the hotel looks gorgeous. It's recently been redone and is a really impressive and exciting place to arrive at after a long journey. The shower, bed and wifi were great. It's a nice walk into York and we enjoyed our weekend immensely. However there were a few things during our stay that were just a bit... off. Whilst all the new furniture in the room looked lovely, there was very little storage, with just two tiny drawers and five hangers available for two people in a deluxe room meaning we had to live out of our suitcases. There was about 10 plug sockets though which was good. They have installed lovely big smart TVs in the room, but they aren't connected to the Wifi so you can't actually use the smart TV functions! The housekeeping was our main gripe, though - we had no hand soap for the entire stay, meaning we used shower gel to wash our hands. When we came back each evening the bed had been made but the room was sort of half cleaned - one coffee mug had been washed up but the saucer hadn't and the other cup was just left dirty, the glasses weren't replaced, we were given one pack of biscuits instead of two and our towels and toiletries (including loo roll) were not replenished at all during our stay. Our friend who was staying on the other side of the hotel had exactly the same issue. The breakfast menu looked nice so we decided on our last morning to give it a go. It was £10 for the continental buffet and £15 for the cooked option. The buffet was lacklustre and there was a bowl of what definitely looked like peanuts marked as 'sunflower seeds' which is frankly dangerous for allergy sufferers. The cooked food was okay, but definitely not worth the cost considering there's so many amazing places within walking distance (we particularly liked Partisan just up the road towards the city walls).
Overall, the hotel is nice but it felt very strange that such a luxury hotel lacked some of the service and benefits you come to expect from even the most budget of hotels.

WOW what a transformation has taken place here. I stayed last year as at a conference and it was comfortable but it was tired. This year fantastic. I stayed in the lodge, great room and space, neat tidy and very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Must return soon with my wife and explore the city again. I highly recomend this hotel.

Room tip: The lodge is great.

Home from a 2 night stay here. Our room was on the 3rd floor in the lodge- lovely, spacious and comfortable with a huge bed!! Friendly, helpful staff. I requested some dairy free milk and was given a little jug of soya to keep in our mini fridge! We reported a problem with a carpet coming away from the stairs as my hubby slipped on it and hurt himself- resolved quickly with no problems.

All the staff were very helpful and friendly - don’t think I’ve stayed anywhere with more friendly staff.

We had a very large room on the front which had recently been modernised to a very high standard.

Although parking could be an issue we had no problem finding a space on small car park or nearby.

Our deal included meal on first evening somewhat basic menu but food was good so we used restaurant again on second night.

Very good location for us as we could walk into York and to National Trust property on same road. Also easy access to Harrogate and Fountains Abbey.

Would definitely recommend.
