Stayed with friends on a three night deal. Hotel was down a side street just off the main road so not noisey. Staff at reception were very friendly and our rooms were ready upon arrival. We had rooms facing the river foss so it was lovely and quiet. Our room was large but because my husband suffers from restless leg syndrome we needed to have the sofa-bed made up and that made the room somewhat cramped. The decor was very plain, there weren't enough drawers (one drawer) in the room but there were shelves, however, all your clothes were on view in the room. There was a wardrobe but just enough room in it for a 3 night stay. The bathroom had no bath just a shower, however it was a lovely shower with two shower heads(one for ladies who did not want to get their hair wet. Nice touch,. and there was a very modern sink. The toilet was seperate. One downside was the housekeeping. The bin under the desk was not emptied the entire time we were there and when the tissue box was empty it was not replaced.
The breakfasts were brilliant with everything you could possibly want. The cooked food was always hot and the breakfast set us up for the day. We had one evening meal in the hotel which was quite disappointing. We found it quite unusual in a 4 star hotel to find that the bar menu was the same as the dinner menu with very little choice, and one vegetarian dish.
The location of the hotel was perfect about 10-15 minutes from the centre of town if you walked along the main road but if you took the route along the river at the back of the hotel it was a 5-10 minute walk. All in all it was quite acceptable for the price we paid.
Good morning and many thanks for your comments. I am delighted to read you enjoyed your stay with us and have taken note of your feedback with regards to our food and beverage offer at night time. I shall pass them on to our head office and am sure your views will be taken into account when designing the next menu. Thank you once again for your review and I hope to see you again in the future.
With kind regards,
We recently went to York for a weekend get away and the prices of most hotels were extortionate. However the Novotel was reasonably priced and placed just 5 mins walk from the centre. Tucked away down the end of a small street meant it was quiet and the hotel offered a secure car park. There is a games console located in reception and also the use of a swimming pool. Rooms were spacious and clean. I would stay here again.
Good afternoon. Just a few words to thank you for your comments. I am very pleased you had a good stay with us and hope you made the most of your visit to York. We are all looking forward to welcoming you back to the hotel.
With kind regards,
I met with 3 friends, to spend 2 nights at the hotel and we had a very enjoyable stay. Hotel is very clean, very modern, and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was a wonderful assortment of cereal, fresh fruit, dried fruit, yoghurt, bacon, sausages, eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes, toast, croissants etc. etc. Before we started breakfast we were asked by the waitress which drinks we would like, and these were served to the table with teapot and milk jug ..........in a very civilised way......................AS OPPOSED TO SOME EXPERIENCES IN OTHER HOTELS WHERE MUGS ARE FILLED IN A COMMUNAL AREA! When we sat in the bar/lounge area, we were asked if we wanted warm drinks served to our table. It was a good break and I would highly recommend the hotel.
Good morning and thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am delighted you had a good stay with your friends and will share your comments with the team especially at breakfast. Thank you once again. I hope we will see you again in the future.
With kind regards,
Not much to say about this one. The beds are okay, The Hotel breakfast was probably the best element of my stay at this hotel. The breakfasts were varied, with meat, cereals, fruit juices, bacon, yoghurts - you name it. The hotel is situated near a busy road, so I was often disturbed in the night by the sounds of cars and motorbikes riding past. The hotel is not as central as it implies - it is a ten minute walk to the town center. The pub around the corner the Freemason's arms was great - a must visit. The TV control system in the rooms was overly - complicated - I had to hit quite a few buttons before I could watch normal TV.
Good morning. Just a few words to thank you for your comments. I hope you made the most of your visit to our beautiful city and hope we can welcome you again at some point.
With kind regards,
My boyfriend and I came to York for 2 nights (9th - 11th Sept) and chose Novotel due to the stylish rooms advertised and the fact that breakfast was included. We selected the "Queen Superior Room"
Upon arrival I was impressed with the entrance and lobby area and bar, couldn't believe how posh it was (bear in mind we are 2 students). We were told on checking in that we had "an amazing room" on the fourth floor, but that the corridor was undergoing maintenance so the walls were a bit bare. This didn't bother us, as the corridor hardly impacts your enjoyment and repairs need doing sometime.
However, the room was a major let down. It was so bland and miserable, with old bumpy wallpaper that reminded me of my Grans house. The walls were painted a dull cream, with some damp green colours too. The room was a fair size but not really worthy of being described as superior. I feel like Premier Inns I've stayed in before have been brighter and more welcoming. Even just one wall being painted a bright colour or nicer curtains would've made such a difference!
Also, we were next to the cleaners cupboard/room and could hear their own lift working, which isn't ideal when you try to sleep.
We were promised the maintenance work and workmen would be of no bother to us, and they weren't.
The bathroom - well, the toilet cupboard and the room with the bath and sink in were also a let down, hardly worthy of a superior label. The shower head itself however, was absolute bliss! I wish I could've brought it home with me! The sink was also stylish. Dust lined the toiletroll holder. The toilet room also reminded me of student halls, which isnt a good thing.
The TV worked fine and had enough selection of channels to keep us entertained as we recovered from all of our tourist activities.
The queen bed was alright, not the most comfy bed I've slept in (again, Premier Inn seemed to do better) but it wasnt uncomfortable.
A bedside light on each side of the bed was nice, however one was not fully lined up so seemed a bit broken.
Toiletries were provided (small shower gel and shampoo, with 2 bars of soap) and toilet rolls were filled each day.
Onto breakfast, it was part of our advanced booking, non refundable deal, so I have no idea how much it is to buy, but it was certainly a feast! Buffet style, all you can eat, continental and full english selections! Yoghurts, cereal, cheese, toast, waffles, orange juice, fruit, bacon, eggs (fried and scrambled), sausages, tomatoes, beans, hash browns, and probably a lot more I can't remember. The serving times were reasonable. You were asked if you wanted tea or coffee on entry and got your own pot. As a (skint) student I would happily pay a tenner for the breakfast, but in the real adult world I am aware it would probably be a bit more.
Overall, the hotel was alright, and the room didnt spoil our stay, however it was dissapointing, but the breakfasts were worth every penny!
Probably wouldn't stay again unless we got a super-cheap deal where breakfast was included. But to be honest I'd be quite happy with a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn or Holiday Inn, as I suspect a majority of visitors would be.
Good morning and many thanks for your extensive review. I am obviously slightly disappointed to read some of your comments and have taken them on board. Part of our ongoing refurbsihment will cover some of our bedrooms over the next few months and we hope we will have the pleasure to welcoming you back to one of our hotels around the country. Thank you once again for your valuable review.
