The Hotel is so so - really nice views from the river side; competent and helpful staff at the desk. Very close to the centre of York. Clearly some money has been spent on the public areas and new flat screen TVs in all rooms. However the decor in the bedroom was very basic and hadn't really been touched since the 1980s. The room felt cramped and smelt slightly musty. A lot of room was take up with a massive desk/storage unit that took up about a quarter of the room. The bathroom was also dated and needed re-tiling. Not so much Ikea - more MFI.

Like other visitors we avoided the restaurant for dinner - a good call because breakfast was very average.

There is a pool but it s small and heavily chlorinated. There is inadequate changing facilities, no shower and no toilets nearby - so problematic.

Stayed there for one night only as that was all the time that we had available. Would certainly return if/when we revisit York.

We had a double room with an additional double fold-out bed for our son. Clean, comfortable room, as was the rest of the hotel, although a little 'IKEA' for some people's taste. We've stayed in other Novotels in the UK and Europe and they tend to be good.

Very quiet location and ideal for the centre of York. Loads of restaurants and pubs if you facny eating out. We didn't use the hotel restuarant as we were eating out in the evening and still too full the following morning to do justice to the (relatvely expensive) breakfast.

We booked over the internet and paid £70 for the night which is pretty good, although their 'rack rate' is a bit silly.

We were very quickly checked into the hotel by the reception staff at the desk. The room was light and airey and clean and all that would be expected of a budget hotel. The shower was my only critic as it was not a power one and slightly weak. The bed was comfortable and spare pillows available in the cupboard. There was also a double seater settee to sit on and watch television and a tea/coffee facility. Pay for view DVDs service which I used one evening whilst my partner went on a Ghost Tour Walk. We paid £69.00 for one night and £89.00 for the second night including a buffet breakfast which was ample, the usual English breakfast and plenty of pastries, cereal, and a toast machine. The location is about a 10 min walk from the city centre. We did not have an evening meal so cannot make any comments. A hint we found out about later is that this Novotel also has other superior rooms you can upgrade too, although for a two night stay the room we had in this hotel is great. It also has limited room service menu late in the evening if you happen to miss your tea.

This was our 2nd visit to York but the first time at the Novotel.
To be honest we only stayed here as the Premier Inn was being re-furbished at the time of the booking.
On arrival at 11.30 the car park was virtually full but managed to find a spot. The room wasn't ready till 2.00pm.

First impressions of the room were mostly thoughts of how basic and quite small it was for a family room. The welcome message on the TV screen was a nice touch and there were optional charged extras such as internet access and pay per view.

Bar prices were quite steep and the restaurant menu was not to our liking either. We dined out in York centre at Tuscany's and Belle Italia. Would highly recommend The Roman Bath Pub and The Parrish . Both very child friendly and superb food in The Roman especially.

This hotel was adequate for what we needed but to charge £ 70.00 more for the 2 nights than Premier Inn really wasn't worth it.

Well what can I say compared to our last trip away this was heaven!

The booking in process was very smooth, and the staff were extremely helpful.

The room was very clean, modern and of a moderate size.

The beds are one thing I would say they could do with changing, as was a little on he hard size but overall lovely.

Ensure if you go you pay for breakfast, so much choice, and tastes so good, only the need for a ight unch anyway. The only other draw back would be bar stools to eat breakfast on maybe not the best choice buy hey cant win them all - hotel please note hard for us smaller people to climb on & off. Some people were complaining about having to wait to be seated for breakfast, the hotel has plenty of signs advising the restaurant will be busy, get up earlier then!

We stayed for 2 nights and will be returning. Lots more to see in York yet and stay was so memorable.

If you can stay here do so, worth paying a little extra for.

We did not try the pool or the restaurant other than for breakfast but everyone we spoke to rated them well.

Excellent Hotel. Modern room - large double bed + sofa, flat screen TV and internet, seperate bathroom/toilet. Very clean and very quiet.
5 minute walk into york centre the hotel has carpaking (free) which is essential in York. Small swimming pool frequented mainly by kids - nice bar and restuarant. Only had breakfast which was excellent - cooked and buffet. V helpful staff on front desk, friendly bar staff.
Bar wasnt cheap but theres plenty of pubs nearby if thats your need.

Overall a great place to stay and Id definitely go back

This Hotel is very very basic. Food & drinks are very expensive. Food very bland. Not many english speaking staff!
Hotel location is ideal. Travelodge is probably nicer and cheaper.
