As a visitor from Australia staying for 3 nights at The Dean Court Hotel was a wonderful experience. Situated across the road from the magnificent York Minster it was a joy to look out of the bedroom window onto such a beautiful sight ! The staff were just SO friendly, helpful and efficient. The restaurants where superb, with the MOST helpful and friendly staff.
Thankyou for making the stay in the city I left 45 years ago such a memorable one.

Room Tip: A room with a view.

We stayed back in April for an overnight stay. We found the hotel lovely,we had a large room overlooking the Minster, and certainly didn't find it filthy as one reviewer stated. We have travelled all over the world and stayed in some beautiful hotels and I can say with all honesty that whilst the hotel wasn't large or the reception area huge,we did find it clean, comfortable and the food was very good from breakfast to the al a carte meal in the restaurant in the evening. The staff were friendly, accommodating and The General manager David, was first class. We would defiantly book here again when we are in York.

I would like to add my views about the Dean Court. It works very well as a mid to high level hotel. The room and service do not leave anything to be desired in my opinion. The umbrella in the room is a nice touch and we used it! But if you are visiting York, an ionic medieval city, with its ginnals and boutiques do not under rate the experience of witnessing the heart of it. The Minster. Whether you go in ( and you should) or no, you can observe the beauty and hear the bells ( its ok they are silent at night) and be aware of 1000 years of history. Explore and come back to comfort, convenience and a view of the minster or the park. The ice cream man over the road is very helpful too!

Room Tip: rooms on 3rd floor are quiet even if window is open

There was some disagreement about Dean Court - so here is a list of good and bad points. Good first! Good: wonderful location, almost touching York Minster; efficient reception, friendly and helpful staff: valet parking; lovely breakfast with a star waitress; room comfortable and attractive, well equipped bathroom. Bad: very hot and stuffy on arrival, smallest and most claustrophic lift in the world; narrow frontage makes the public areas feel like a corridor; our room was next to the cleaners' cupboard on the first floor which was open with equipment to trip over left out most of the day; no car park. While the breakfast in the main dining room was lavish and delicious, (great haddock and kedgeree,) our evening meal in the bistro was disappointing. The room is windowless, dark and decorated like a cafe in a shopping centre - and the food very disappointing. Dry fish, or overcooked pasta, and dull cafe fare. There are plenty of better places to eat right on your doorstep - though they do get very busy, so book. This is not a cheap hotel - if location and efficiency are important then you will like it, but we were (OK, I was) looking for something more.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the Minster, ask and pay extra - but rooms at the back are much quieter.

We stayed for a romantic weekend. First Appearances looked good, with the car parking service, and the room looked nice.
However, when you actually look at the carpets, the walls, the seats, its filthy. The seats in the public area were stained, with food wedged down the sides of the cushions. The worst was at breakfast, I looked out the window, only to be drawn to the mouldy scone wedged down the back of the radiator.

I complained to management, I felt that we deserved some kind of compensation, A for us having to stay in a filthy hotel, and B for ruining my breakfast.
I was assured a phone call to apologise, however nothing was forthcoming. Its a shame as the location was fantastic, as were the staff, lets hope a deep clean is due very soon to clean up what could be a lovely hotel

I can honestly say for £160 a night, I wish I had booked Travelodge, they are a dam sight cleaner

Room Tip: Do not get a room towards the front of the hotel, late night drinkers, Taxi rank, and of course the...

We booked a small double room but were delighted with the size having stayed in much smaller . Great location next to York Minster ,. Lovely meet and greet with your vehicle taken and securely parked - £13.50 per night. Everything you could wish for in your room , dressing gowns an added bonus. Breakfast was great with a huge selection of fruit , cereals, juices and yoghurts followed by a vast selection of hot choices . We were located at a room at the front if the hotel which overlooked a lane with a few pubs , there was a lot of noise which lasted into the early hours of the morning - would advise to book a room at the back .
