I have wanted to stay at the Dean Court Hotel for a very long time. It did not disappoint.
The position of the Dean Court is fantastic - right on top of the cathedral, close to all of York city centre and a short stroll from Bettys Cafe!! What more could you want?
On arrival outside , we parked our car and entered the reception with our luggage. We checked in, our luggage was taken to our room for us, and our car was taken to be valet parked. Our room was on the second floor over looking the front of the hotel. There was a tiny lift which we decided not to use as it was so small it would not fit us both at the same time!! I have never seen such a small lift! I used the lift later in our stay and it was fine, just very very small.
Our room was lovely. It was large, nicely decorated and well furnished. The bathroom was also spacious and really nicely decorated in dark blue and white.
The bed was very comfortable and had a choice of pillows (firmer memory foam pillows are stored in the wardrobe). We found we needed to open a window during the night (we like some fresh air). This meant that we had some noise from the taxi queue on the opposite side of the road all night long. This didn't really disturb me but my husband noticed it more.
Breakfast is in the main restaurant. There is a good choice of cooked items to order as well as a good buffet of continental breakfast items. The full English included fried bread, which I love! Toast arrived promptly, so did the hot drinks.
On the day we were leaving, we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel all day, and leave the car in the valet parking until we needed it. When we collected everything later it was all done very efficiently and quickly.
We didn't try the bistro during our stay.
We had a lovely stay in York and definitely hope to be back in the not too distant future.

Spent the most wonderful night here, and was gutted I was only staying one night. I was lucky enough to be upgraded into a suite, and was blown away by the stunning decor and the gorgeous corner bath. However, even if I hadn't been upgraded I would still be reviewing this as excellent as I was really treated well by the staff and the breakfast was perfection! Such a wonderful stay.

Only negative would be the parking is quite expensive, but then you are in the centre of York!
Otherwise, great location and great staff, thank you!

This has to be the most perfect location in York, the view from the room and restaurant of the Minster was stunning, and so quiet for a central location. The shops and theatre were practically on our doorstep! The breakfasts were freshly cooked and served by friendly, cheerful and helpful staff. Our room was clean and spacious (No 15) , very warm with tea/coffee making facilities and a seating area, also two TV's which pleased my husband greatly! We stayed for our Wedding Anniversary and found a hand written card in the room on arrival, just one of the smal details that made our stay special.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Experience with hotel chains always makes us somewhat wary as many provide an efficient though rather soulless experience. Not this one! The hotel setting is superb, being just opposite the Minster. It is well furnished, very clean and well maintained with very comfortable beds and beautifully appointed rooms. Dining and eating there generally is a pleasurable experience with excellent food (we'd suggest hotter plates for breakfast to keep the food warmer for longer). The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. We had a minor problem with our sink which was fixed immediately. For those with cars there is a valet service to garage and return your car on request. As a treat, the bellringers at the Minster gave us a recital which we could enjoy in the comfort of our own room. Noises off, such as chimes, go off at night and restart 8 am. So the surroundings are quiet. A hotel that should be a preferred destination for anyone who comes to York. Shops and other facilities are close by so a journey on foot to all parts of the old city is not onerous. We hope to return before long.

Room Tip: We found the superior rooms facing the Minster ideal and quiet - cyclists are the main passers by..

For the last few years we have been making a 3 day trip to York one of our favourite cities. There is so much to see and do and a delight to walk through the old cobbled streets . Afternoon tea at Betty's is a must and worth the 45 mins queue to get in. This year we stayed for the first time at the Best Western Dean Court Hotel. The location close to York Minster and the old town cannot be bettered. The hotel was very pleasant and the staff friendly and our car valet parked. Our deluxe room on the first floor was a good size and well appointed with a bowl of fruit on our arrival and splendid views of the Minster. However it was a little noisy most of the night with taxis stopping at the taxi rank outside and students returning to Uni in the early hours which I suppose is to be expected in a City centre hotel. The evening meal was nicely served but of average quality, just choose carefully. Breakfast was very good. I would definitely return to Dean Court next year but sacrifice the Minster view room for one at the back overlooking the garden. The hotel was clean but the hallways to the bedrooms were looking a bit tired.

Stayed for 3 nights in this lovely hotel. Right in the centre of York next to the Minster. Stayed in a superior double, room was lovely, very comfortable and well appointed. Hospitality tray was very good and replenished daily.
We were both very tired and this hotel was perfect for us, apart from a few hours each day meandering round round York we basically hibernated for 3 days.
Service in the hotel was brilliant and food in the restaurant highly recommended. We also had room service one night which was excellent.

As many people have already said the location is perfect and that's the reason we chose the hotel. My friend is a wheelchair user and we wanted to be in the center of town, plus it's a 4 star. We had room 20 which is an adaptable room. Public rooms are nice and worthy of the 4 star rating. Room 20 definitely isn't a 4 star room. Its dated and tired. Paintwork chipped, furniture outdated, modern TV planted precariously on top of chest of drawers. Wallpaper covering some dodgy plaster work, wallpaper torn in places. Lighting poor in bathroom - LED lighting might have been more effective instead of those cheap energy saving bulbs. Notice on bathroom window not to open, so no ventilation and drain smell! No air condition in rooms. Window in bedroom opened from one side and although we were there during the coldest spells of the winter so far, it was still too hot. We had to have the window open and bear the noise from outside. There's a taxi rank just opposite the hotel which didn't appear to be used during the day, but its certainly where all the noise was coming from into the small hours. Heavy footsteps from room above. There's no fridge in the room, no toiletries - only a soap and hand creme dispenser in the bathroom.
Tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits replenished daily. Beds comfortable and nice bedding. Breakfast excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal in the bistro which we didn't enjoy. I had lasagna and it felt like a reheat from lunchtime and my friend said her pasta lacked depth of flavour - it tasted of tomatoes and nothing else. We wouldn't have complained but we were asked by the waitress if we enjoyed the meal - we gave our opinion - she apologised, but no appearance from the Chef!!
For wheelchair users I'd have to say it's not the friendliest of hotels. My friend is able to walk short distances and was able to climb the steps at the front of the hotel. There was a portable ramp at the side of the hotel, although I'd be guessing if you could power a chair up the ramp unaided and the door didn't hold back, so two people would be needed to get a wheelchair bound person in and out of the hotel. I'm not sure if there was enough room to get a wheelchair through the bedroom door of number 20 because she was able to walk the short distances and her chair was stored by the reception desk. If room 20 is the exception rather than the norm, then I suggest the management team give this room a priority face lift. Outside noise is difficult to sort out, but if there was air condition in the rooms, then the windows wouldn't need to be opened and the noise pollution would be much reduced. Finally I'd like to offer some advice to the reception staff....please acknowledge your guests with a friendly smile. I never once saw them smile - they always appeared to be writing something down or using a keyboard thereby avoiding contact with the guests who were entering and leaving the hotel.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms have a great view, but noisy.
