We made the choice to call in here for an evening meal after spending a full day wandering round the beautiful city. The place was busy at 8pm but we found a table in the corner. When ordered they were out of quite a large selection of the menu. I had the last of the mixed grill they had left while my partner finally opted for the duck after they were out of her first two choices. Mine was nice with a good selection of grilled meat while the duck portion left my girlfriend disappointed considering both dishes were the same price! Left feeling let down given the reviews we'd read.

Located fairly close by the Minster and beside a Medieval City Gate, we popped into the Hole-In-The-Wall late on a Sunday afternoon as the weather was very bitter and we needed refreshment after a day's visit to the Railway Museum. It was quiet (which we liked) , and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere that matched the time of day.The menu was I suppose ,fairly formulaic, but we hadn't expected 'haute cuisine' . Meals are ordered and paid for a fixed point. Staff were efficient and we had our meals delivered quickly. We both enjoyed a home-made beef and Guinness pie with veg. the crust was however a little too hard I suspect foremost palates but it was hot and went down well. Puddings and coffee were satisfactory and our total bill was about £40 which we considered about right given the quality. Well worth a visit for an adequate and quick lunch but do not expect fine dining.

Enjoyed a fab Sunday lunch. Staff friendly, good customer service and excellent food and wine. I had the chicken crown and my friend had roast beef. Both large portions and well cooked. Would highly recommend.

went here on wednesday night for a meal and found the special offers, wed night 2 meals off the grill menu and free bottle of wine, got 2 excellent grills and really nice bottle of wine for £16.
the place was full with locals and the atmosphere was excellent, we ended up staying there most of the night and had a really good time.

We called in this pub on our first night in York as it was near to where we were staying. The food was usual pub grub but service was efficient and prices reasonable. We would certainly go back if we went to York again.
