We visited here on the way back from a day out. As we were both hungry we ordered fish chips and peas. The fish was that big we both struggled to finish the meal. The cod was fresh and tasty, the batter crisp and not at all soggy. Good value for money. The restaurant also offers free WiFi which was handy as we were staying in the nearby Griffon Forest so had no access to emails etc. There is also a take away attached so no need to eat in. The place was clean, well presented with helpful cheery staff. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Recommended to visit & glad we did - lovely food, large portion sizes & not bad value. Had scampi - very good & Haddock was fresh and tasty. Batter crisp not soggy & nice little extras included like bread & butter with the Fish & chips. Had mushy peas for first time really liked them much to my surprise they were tasty & good texture.
Will make sure we take visitor here

Thompson's has to be the best fish restaurant for miles. The fish was perfectly cooked, salad fresh and crisp and food was well presented. The new decor is bright and cheerful and tastefully decorated. The service is quick and staff friendly

If you are traveling on the A64 towards Scarborough or returning from there this is a must stop. Having 30 years experience, until retiring, in the Fish & Chip business the quality of this restaurant with take-away is really top of the catch. We have used both the restaurant and take-away many times and have never been disappointed in both the food and service offered. The cleanliness of both the restaurant and take-away plus the outside eating area are kept very clean. All the staff are always so friendly and polite and a credit to the owners at all times. We have tried most of the fish dishes on the menu over the years and never a disappointment at all, but their home made Cod & Prawn, cooked to order, fish cakes are a must they are delicious and highly recommended. So if you are looking for a great pull in to eat on the A64 then this is it, try it either the restaurant or take-away, I am sure you will call again and again as we do for either lunch or dinner. Super.
