“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed September 21, 2011

Myself, partner and 5 year old daughter stayed here in September for one night at a rate of £49/room.

This Premier Inn is located within easy walking distance of the train station and the city centre. Car parking is limited around the back of the neighbouring Premier Inn (Blossom St North), or as others have advised, there is more parking at the NCP car park, this cost us £17.00 for 2 days. Upon arriving early in the morning staff were very good at taking our luggage and storing it, and letting us put our champagne and milk in their fridge.

The hotel decor and cleanliness in general was very good. The rooms here are a good size, bigger than most Premier Inns, and the carpets, furniture etc were all in very good condition.

The only negative about the room I could find was a few hairs in the bath, and the shower curtain needed shortening. The most positive aspects about the room (on the top floor) was the good sized bed; the view across the Georgian rooftops, with the beautiful architecture and chimney pots, and distant spires of a church. Also, there is a good air conditioning system in the room which worked much better than those in other hotels I have stayed in.

All staff were friendly, polite and well-trained.

We had an evening meal in the Table Table restaurant next door, the choice was excellent and the food was served hot and fairly quickly. In addition, the prices were very reasonable.

As I always find with Premier Inn, the breakfast was excellent. It was self service - however, the choice on offer for an all you can eat price of £7.99 is good value compared to most chain hotels. Hot items were good, very good quality thick bacon, tasty sausages, eggs with orange yolks and real mushrooms. Continental choices included dried and fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, toast as well as fresh croissants and crumpets.

I would stay here again. It’s an incredibly reasonable price considering the proximity to York.

Very much as all Premier Inns are - decent places to stay that seem to be one up on the other lodges for travellers.

Nice Yorkshire welcome when we arrived early, bags were stored until our rooms were ready. We headed into York for the day. The hotel is only a five minute walk from the station, but is outside the main walls and is a 10 minute or so walk into the main city area. There are hotels that are closer in.

Nothing much to say about the room - it was clean with a double and pull-out single. Plenty of pillows, room clean. A/C worked and shower was OK but not very high pressure. No soaps, only dispensers in the bathrooms and ours was out of shower gel.

There's enough room to move around, but no a lot to spare. TV had freeview channels and a decent picture.

Breakfast was a bit zoo like - real bottleneck is only one coffee machine for the entire restaurant - please get another! It makes decent coffee - so that's to be praised. Breakfast is good value for a hotel at £7.99, poor value if compared to a greasy spoon.

All in all a good, clean, budget place to stay.

This hotel renewed our faith in Premier Inns.

The service was fantastic and the easy check in was a breeze.

The family room was the standard layout for a Premier Inn but it just felt classier than the one we stayed at in Blackpool.

The restaurant was very good. Service and food quality was great.

The hotel was just a minute's walk from Micklegate and only 10 minutes from the centre of the walled city.

Considering what we paid, this was excellent value.

Stayed here during the York races Ebor meeting. It is in an ideal location only a few minutes walk from the railway station and half way betwen the city and the racecourse. Found the premises to be well maintained. The reception staff were very pleasant always lifting their head from there desk duties to smile or pass on a greeting. The rooms were clean and more than adequate. There was some noise on 2 nights during our stay from fellow guests but think this is common place in York during Ebor week. Would certainly return.
