I took my almost 5 year old son here this week, he really enjoyed the digging part, this could be expanded a bit, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. being half term the place was very busy and there was a school party in as well. very informative, would highly recommend.

Went to Dig tonight for the DIG for a Quid event. Totally fab, didn't know it was there til I saw it on the illuminating York event leaflet. Enthusiastic staff who made it a really enjoyable experience. My son loved it :)

What a super time spent at dig today. Matthew our tour guide was brilliant! Enthusiastic, great with kids, passionate about archaeology and history. A super experience to accompany Jorvik centre visit.

we had a brilliant time at dig on sept 28th,our 2 girls 4 and 6 loved all the hands on exhibits and loved getting stuck in with a trowel. we went round in a small group which was brilliant as the guide was with us all the way through explaining everything all at a level the children understood. very pleased we went here ,we will go back in the next couple of years as the girls will get different experiences out of the musem each time they visit.allow approx. 1.5 hrs for your visit we combined this with yorvik in the afternoon.

We visited DIG with my nine year old son and his friend and I have to say found the whole experience extremely disappointing. The pre-tour introduction is ok, but as soon as you enter the 'digging' area you can't help but be underwhelmed. The digging areas are very small, and the artefacts, when found, cannot be removed, but merely exposed. This means that the 'tactile' experience is relatively poor. The 'digging' is followed by a session looking at various artefacts such as bones etc. The session is again ok, but nothing special. The interactive area to explore post tour is far poorer than other similar museums etc.
Overall I couldn't recommend and struggle to identify exactly which age group DIG are targetting.
