Top class service and such a nice welcome from the guy at the door, very friendly and helpful. The reception staff friendly too. Lovely room, clean and modern and twin beds perfect and more like small doubles rather than rubbish small singles so was a nice surprise when we arrived and comfy too. Only downside to the hotel I would say is price of breakfast and parking although it's cheaper to park at train station which is a short walk away so wasn't too bad and parking in York is pricy wherever you stay. Only things I would recommend to the hotel is one: try to make it more clearer to guests that the sweets and crisps you put out are part of the mini bar and not free as they are next to tea it makes it look like they are free when there not :-/ also robes could do with XXL rather than just XL in rooms. As some of us are fat I'm afraid and no one knew if you had larger sizes or not so I was unable to use the spa. Other than that I loved the hotel and would highly recommend.

Good afternoon Matthew,

Greetings from The Grand.

I hope all is well and you are having a wonderful day so far.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and submitting your valuable feedback.

It is great to read that you appreciated our luxurious rooms and charming building- established in 1906.

Our team is passionate about making your guest experience the best possible, therefore it's great to know that this was very clear during your experience and your first impressions upon arrival were excellent.

In terms of breakfast, we do provide the highest quality of food & beverage, freshly prepared by our dedicated team and a large range of options. Tea, coffee, juice is provided and you can enjoy our delicious breakfast between 6.30am and 10.30am.

We understand that City parking can be stressful, therefore our team is always available to assist you with parking options. Whether that will be our Valet Parking assistance, where your car is securely parked and taken care of, which does reflect in the pricing or we also provide discount cards for the local NCP parking, which is a recommendation from us.

Housekeeping does place a price list for the mini bar in the room, if this was not explained upon the check in, I would like to offer you our apologises. We also provide robes in various sizes for our lovely guests, as your comfort is very important to us. The team is always on hand to cater for any requests and ensure that you make the most of our facilities.

We do hope to welcome you back in the near future.

All the best,

Catherine Jayne Herbert

Visited the hotel for a full day business meeting with around 60 colleagues.
Main room itself seemed a little dated to me but if you prefer more traditional style it might be more to your taste. Several of the chairs were broken in one way or another.

We had breakfast such as pastries which looked nice (but I didn't try). Lovely fruit tray mid-morning but no suitable utensils (juicy pineapple and kiwi didn't work well with fingers and napkins). Lunch was really poor but luckily afternoon tea (mini scones with Jam & cream) were amazing. However they ran out before everyone had some as people were making up for lunch! Plenty of tea and coffee available and water in the main room kept topped up.

Staff were all helpful and polite.

Some of our party stayed in the hotel the night before the meeting and were told they couldn't use the gym unless they paid to upgrade to a suite. That didn't seem reasonable.

Overall I'd say that if you're looking for a hotel with a historic feel near the station and centre of York, then this could be what you're looking for even though I was personally disappointed.

Good morning,

Greetings from The Grand.

I hope all is well and that you are having a nice day so far.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for submitting your feedback regarding your recent business meeting.

I would like to sincerely apologise for any disappointment during your stay with us, as your feedback is key and extremely important for us. It enables us to move forward and enhance your guest experience to the highest standards possible.

It is unfortunate that we did not reach you expectations in terms of our food service and we will investigate this in more details with the relevant department.

Our charming building was established in 1906 and we have kept original features, in the main part of the hotel. We do have a nice contrast with our new wing 'Roman House', for those who prefer a more contemporary feel.

I have informed maintenance in regards to the issues which occurred and they will actioned.

The team strives to provide the highest levels of service and are always on hand to assist you and make your visit as comfortable as possible.

We do offer different extras, including Spa and Gym access depending on the accommodation/rate that has been booked. Our reservations team is also on hand to clarify any finer details and ensure that the right room types are booked for your requirement's.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and your kind remarks regarding the team will be shared.

We hope to welcome you back in the future and fully restore your faith in our seamless service.

Kind regards,

Just popped in for a coffee in the bar with a colleague and was disgusted to see the bill. A 12.5% service charge was automatically applied. For a coffee?!
Besides which I was the only person in the bar and had to wait 20 mins for the bill.
No wonder the bar was empty!

Amazing building- stunning architecture. Period building has been refurbished to a very high stantard and sympathetic to the core heritage of the building. Luxurious but in an understated way. Very elegant. A true 5 star experience. Staff truly understand the concept of the hospitality sector - they are there when you need them and give you space when you dont ! Efficient and friendly in all areas of hotel. Bedrooms are very spacious and very well appointed. Bathrooms too. Food offering is top level, as you would expect. Pool and spa facility is great to have. Whilst the rack rate at hotel is rather top end and full, there are often discounted rates to be found on line. A beautiful hotel very worthy of its 5 star rating.
