“Lacked a little sparkle this time around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stopped here for a night while catching up with friends in York. We chose to stop here as we had previously got married here a couple of years prior to our recent stay.
We requested a quiet room and we got one on the top floor with a nice view out of the large window. The room was very nice as we expected, it was also clean, tidy with all bedding and towels etc clean. The bed was comfy. Some nice touches included the Molton Brown toiletries and underfloor heating in the bathrooms.
Although the large window was a nice focal point for the room the gap between the window and the blind meant that we were woken up by the sun shining in first thing in the morning which was a little disappointing, otherwise it was okay.
We used the valet parking which was efficient, didn’t think the price was too bad as we have seen other hotels (abroad) charge a similar amount for valet into the free hotel car park.
We used the Spa in the afternoon we arrived. As we were travelling from Australia we tried to book the Spa via email, but as we did not receive a response to emails we had to call. We were a little disappointed with this, if you are going to provide an email for contact, then you should at least respond. After an initial mix up in treatments booked the Spa treatments were good for us both, but I was disappointed to find the pool closed due to incorrect levels of chlorine.
It was nice to return to the hotel where we were married, but a couple of things took the sparkle of this stay.

Our family of 5 enjoyed an overnight stay in this hotel on a recent trip to York. The rooms are modern, large, and clean. The beds were quite comfortable. My only complaint would be the limits on the a/c . I like cold when I sleep.
The bathrooms were large with excellent shower and deep soaking bath. The radiant floor heating was a nice touch.
All in all, this was one of the nicest hotels we had the pleasure staying in on our recent excursion to Great Britain. i wouldn't hesitate to rebook on any future trips.
On a negative side -- the restaurant is pricey and the food so-so. You may wish to consider an alternative dining experience

My husband and I stayed at CCG over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We were expecting an over luxurious stay and spa weekend, but we instead experienced standard treatment and spa facilities. To be fair, it was the Race weekend, so perhaps the hotel was too busy to ensure every customer felt extremely valued and welcome. However, I have do not wish to wait for 20 minutes just to receive a drink in the lounge, nor do I appreciate being forced to keep choosing a different dessert because the kitchen has run out (especially since I asked "What is available today?" to help guide the conversation). The Junior Suite (Room 2) had an amazing bathroom, but the sound from the street in the bedroom kept my husband awake at night. The pluses were a very friendly greeter and a Ruinart Terrace.

We stayed at this hotel during the Ebor race meeting week. This guarantees that the hotel will be very full and busy but despite this the staff manage to maintain a very high standard of service. The hotel is located in an imposing Victorian building which means that the bedrooms are very spacious and the public rooms most imposing. Our visit started well with a very efficient valet parking service and all the staff that we encountered on our two night stay were friendly and helpful. This is a really good hotel.

This hotel oozes class from the second you walk in. Checking in was efficient and friendly. We booked two Executive rooms, one for myself and my husband and the other for our three daughters. Both of the rooms (Numbers 206 and 204) were large, bright and luxurious. There were lovely Molton Brown toiletries provided in the beautiful bathrooms (much to the delight of our daughters!) and a very nice complimentary Molton Brown lip balm was left when the staff came to turn down the beds in the evening. We were delighted to find a well stocked tea tray in the rooms. The cookies were delicious and the provision of an individual cafetiere with sachets of freshly ground coffee were such a step up and welcome relief from the usual freeze dried instant coffee one would normal find provided.
The restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast, was gorgeous and the service was superb. In fact the service provided by all the staff in the hotel was excellent.
The spa is well worth a visit, we did not have any treatments, but we used the gym, pool, steam room and sauna and they were all immaculately clean and again the staff were efficient and helpful.
The entire hotel is decorated to an incredibly high standard. The decor, although modern, really compliments the original features of this beautiful old building. The Whisky lounge is particularly plush and snug.
In terms of location, it couldn't be any better. It is literally across the road from the train station and less than a ten minute walk into the main shopping areas.
The hotel is pricey, but it's worth it. You really do get what you pay for.

We went to the hotel for a meal with friends and it was superb. The cocktails are fabulous!
My husband had the smoked fillet steak for his main and he says it is the best steak he has ever had. The ambience is excellent, the staff friendly and the building is definitely worth a look at. Can thoroughly recommend.

Once again CCG York has excelled. Seriously, nothing is too much trouble for the staff at this hotel. From start to finish we were made to feel special and valued clientele. We have stayed at the chester grosvenor recently which in price and style is on a par with CCG but the service and sheer attention to detail is far superior in the latter, just wanted to say thankyou for reserving our special room and for making our stay special again. We will be returning very soon
