“Staff Superb!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

As previously stated this hotel has certainly got it`s customer service policy exactly right. From the moment we left our car at the entrance (valet parking) to the moment we checked out, staff were friendly , welcoming and helpful. Special mention to Danny who assisted us with our reservation , an absolute asset to the hotel, professional, kind and above all friendly, he is a star! Would not hesitate returning to the hotel, rooms large and well appointed and beautifully air conditioned throughout, much needed in this warm weather. Keep up the excellent standards, I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel. York a great city to visit with excellent shopping , eating and dinking options and this hotel ideally located in `staggering` distance to all amenities.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to an executive room, huge room in a quiet location, room number 4!

An excellent hotel which is in a great location. From meeting the doorman on arrival, to the cleaners farewell when departing, all were wonderful staff who came across as happy and they took pride in their work. Great facilities in a beautiful old building.

What a fantastic experience from start to finish.

We had a weekend break in York and decided to splash out on the hotel. After reading good reviews on TripAdvisor and hearing good reports, we decided to try the Cedar Court Grand, and were not disappointed.

We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff. Check in was effortless.

We were directed to our room, which was generously spacious and finished to an extremely high standard. Molton Brown toiletries were abundant. The room comprised a large king-size bed, two comfortable chairs around a small glass coffee table, generous wardrobes, dressing table and minibar. Complimentary refreshments included mineral water, a selection of teas, coffee (fresh coffee and a cafetiere).

After an evening in York we returned to the hotel for drinks in the lounge - there is a great cocktail menu, which we enjoyed in the relaxed lounge, finished to an even higher standard than the bedrooms. On returning to our room we were surprised that the bed had been turned down, including further complimentary mineral waters being placed at the side of the bed in addition to slippers and Molton Brown lip balm. Our towels and toiletries had also been replaced, having used them before going out that evening.

The continental breakfast was great - a varied selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts, pastries and cereals, in addition to hot and cold drinks served at the table. Although we didn't try them, there looked to be a good list of hot breakfast items available too.

Every bit of our stay was fantastic - we would thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel. Its more expensive than we'd normally pay... however I think this experience will make us pay more in future! We cannot praise it enough!

Excellent hotel well situated within the city walls and only a short walk into the oldest part of York and the Minster. So easy access to all the main attractions, restaurants and bars. Restaurant and bar/terrace within the hotel. Free WiFi, but need new password every 24hrs.
Large clean rooms and excellent staff. Spa looked nice in basement with a good size pool/sauna etc but unfortunately did not get to use on our short stay. Lifts a bit slow and only appeared to be one in service during our stay, no real problem as we stayed on 2nd floor, but it is a refurbished/converted older building so wasn't originally designed for hotel requirements.
No parking at the hotel but drop of point and valet parking out front. Parking cost as an extra £20/day. NCP car park adjacent, which the hotel use for valet parking, and short walk to station if travelling by public transport. Really enjoyed our short stay in York and was pleased with our choice of hotel through TA

Room Tip: Lifts a bit slow/busy if staying on upper floors

We had our second trip to this hotel this week having spent a few days earlier in hotels in Newcastle. We came to see the train gathering at the museum. We had a lovely room which was comfortable and spacious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Great breakfast and spa area. We will definitely visit again as like the attention to detail. Also short walk to the station and town centre.

I would echo all the previous comments about this excellent hotel. Our room was immaculate, the bathroom with Molton Brown toiletries was enormous and luxurious, and all the staff were exceptional. A real treat, highly recommended. Just one regret - wish we'd had our afternoon tea here (instead of going to Betty's)! Would love to return if we're in the area.

We went for 3 nights to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, as we had been to York the first time we went away together. We chose this hotel due t it's proximity to the station and the centre of town along with its spa facilities. We have stopped at some very good hotels around the world and this was one of the best, from the hand written note to the friendliness of the staff. Our room was large and well fitted out over looking the wall around the city. We both enjoyed a session in the spa having a full body massage with hot stones, this was the first time I had experienced a spa and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our only criticism of the break is the time taken to do some things by the staff, with the Saturday breakfast my wife asked for a spoon, the waiter went to fetch one and was then distracted on his return. We watched him walk round the restaurant at least 3 times carrying the spoon, each evening we went to the terrace for both pre and post dinner drinks, the service could best be described as slow, and it got worse through the stay, culminating on the Sunday when we had been waiting on the terrace for 15 minutes, my wife ended up going to the bar only to be told that they would come and take our order, 5 minutes later they came out, we then received our drinks after 30 minutes, and then one was wrong so I had to take it and change it, the offer to have it bought out was politely declined, and I waited. Eventually we had drinks after 35 minutes, a staff member came over and apologised stating the computer was not working, not sure what was wrong with a paper and pen. Apart from these incidents our break was superb, and we would stay there again, just wouldn't want a thirst on.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the front of the hotel
