We stayed on a room only basis because we wanted to eat out in York so I can't comment on the food but the service, communal areas (including the excellent bar), bedrooms etc are fabulous. They know how to treat guests here and the hotel has a great location within the walls and close to the railway station. Would definitely always be my choice

We would highly recommend the Cedar Court Grand as a wedding venue! We had a small wedding (30 guests) and used the Chairman's Suite both for the ceremony and reception. From the first contact with the hotel to the day of the wedding, the staff was responsive, detail oriented, and attentive. We can't thank Evie, the hotel's wedding coordinator, enough for all her help leading up to the wedding. She made the planning stress-free and was always there to answer any questions, large or small. Once we arrived to the hotel for the wedding, the staff could not have been more helpful and made our day incredibly special. Our guests were very impressed with the hotel (both their accommodations and the ceremony space) and raved about the food. The day went incredibly smoothly and we didn't have to worry about anything except enjoying our day! Thank you to everyone at the Cedar Court Grand for contributing to our unforgettable day.

Room Tip: Highly recommend room 412 with beautiful circle windows and separate shower/tub.

Wonderful place and people.

Pros -
- staff are friendly and execute the art of offering help and suggestions more professionally than any other hotel I've been to.
- comfortable, spotlessly clean quiet room - great bed.
- big bathroom (228) with walk in shower
- easy walk to town centre, train station, wheel, rail museum etc.
- beautiful building inside and out
- kettle, coffee and tea in room
- great wifi reception in room

I could go on ....

Didn't eat there so can't comment but the menu looked great.

Cons - a couple of picky things - (nobody's perfect)

- taps - not the best taps I've ever used and I wish hotels would instal taps that make it clear which is hot and which is cold rather than leave you to spend a few minutes working it out by trial and error or deciphering the faint tiny scratches indicating which is which. This was made even more difficult by the plumbing which made the cold tap intermittently go warm to hot.

- repeated offering lollipops to kids - this is a nice idea - in theory - but it would be nice if the hotel offered a place where kids were not offered tooth rotting, obesity promoting junk food I know it's only a small sweet but she was offered one on a number of occasions (thankfully she did not like them) and it is just one more telling kids it's all right to stuff yourself with junk. (In fairness, they did have a big bowl of fruit in the lobby too). Could I suggest something I have discovered many kids will bite your arm off for - stickers - maybe offer hotel themed or York themed stickers.

- your have to re-register for wifi every 24 hours - a small niggle - but that aside the wifi reception was great.

So, taps that are easier to use and something other than lollipops for the kids please.

Now that that's off my chest - it's a great place and I will be back.

Room Tip: 228 - big bathroom, quiet, comfortable, bright, nice view of Walls of York.

We started our experience visiting York at weekends, and popping in for an alcoholic drink or just a cup of tea.
A good experience with that brought us back now several times to stay at this hotel.

It has always been delightful and I can't praise the place and staff enough.
We have stayed at a pre-booked price and also paying full price when deciding on the day, which feels as good when you get this level of luxury and service.
Add massages and breakfast - and we are very happy spenders.

This message should be picked up by hotels such as the La Royale Meridien in Hamburg, Germany, where we stayed in May.
Although the place was super-clean, tasteful and well located, they charge the guest a 19 Euro per day Wi-Fi fee, which got my hair up.
Let's just say, we did not leave any more money at that place except that our accomodation.

We will be returning again to The Cedar Court, which treats its' guests so well!
(without hidden rip-off extras)

Room Tip: All rooms are spacious and elegant. Really can't go wrong with any!

We spent a night in a classic room in August 2012 for our anniversary. From start to finish our stay couldn't have been better! The staff are just amazing. Fantastically friendly and approachable, incredibly helpful without being intrusive. A great balance. The room was gorgeous and immaculate. We dined in the hotel restaurant and the meal was fantastic. We had breakfast in our room the next morning and everything was just perfect. The only regret is that we didn't have a chance to try out the spa so we're going back for our anniversary this year to give it a try! All of this and just a very short walk from the centre of York.

Room Tip: I think any room would be great!
