I stayed with my son during the Easter holidays for 3 nights. It is in a great central location, we had travelled by train and it was only a few minutes walk from the station. We arrived early and were met by friendly and helpful staff who let us leave our bags in the hotel before checking in, so we could go and start exploring York. All the staff were friendly and helpful. the room was large, the beds extremely comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. Attention was paid to detail, the breakfast was relaxing with a wide choice of options and the staff gave good advice on where to visit every morning. The spa and swimming pool were excellent and never too busy.On the final day we left our bags in the hotel after check out so that we had another full day in York. It was a lovely place to stay and I would definitely return when visiting York again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the ground floor but i think the rooms on the upper floors have better views

We were impressed as soon as we pulled up to the door and the super friendly concierge took our bAgs. Reception staff were very very polite and friendly too, and we were thrilled to have a complimentary upgrade.
Room was fabulous, with all the touches I love....bathrobes and slippers, gorgeous toiletries that you actually want to use, cafetiere to make fresh coffee in your room, huuuuge comfortable beds and immaculately clean. Oh, and a shower so huge you could have a small party in it!
We used the spa in the hotel and this was wonderful. I had a fantastic full body massage and we then used the other facilities for a couple of hours.
We didn't eat at the restaurant at all, we will defo at least give breakfast a go next time.
Highly recommended hotel, you feel like you really get your money's worth!

This is the second time I've stayed here in the past month- the hotel definitely warrants its 5 stars- the hotel is minutes from York train station ideal for those arriving by train. The only negative is its £20 to park your car- valet parking- however the hotel is fabulous , very grand, rooms spacious and sumptuous -everything you could ask for- there's restaurants a spa, bars- terrace- and only a 5 minute walk into the hub of York. If you can afford to stay you should- it truly is a treat .

Visited the Cedar Court for a hen weekend, a great location in York for everyone to get to, great hotel with very pleasant staff who could not be more helpful, wonderful sized rooms with comfy beds. A great choice of food for breakfast. Well worth the stay, not cheap but very good

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Cedar Court Grand. The room was very nice with great views. We could see the Ferris wheel out one window and York Minster from the other.
Located within the walls, this hotel is in a great spot. Within walking distance from everything we wanted to see.
Much of the staff were helpful and pleasant, some weren't so friendly.
We only ate breakfast at the hotel, which was included with the room. But we did (and recommend) pay extra for the eggs florentine. They are fantastic!
I did complain to my husband about the decor... a lot. Something he really cares about ;) I felt that the style was a bit confusing. Light fixtures and holders seemed misplaced didn't flow with the rest of the decor. Color schemes were off. Seems they are trying too hard to give the hotel a certain look that doesn't fit with the building style. It is a really cool building. They have so much to work with. Such history. Just need a better design(er). Simple changes would improve the feel of the sitting rooms, especially.
York is absolutely wonderful! And if your going to visit there, I would definitely recommend the Cedar Court Grand.

As you pull up, the building and area are gorgeous, quiet, well-maintained and classy. The lovely doorman & parking valet, Paul Leach (same name as my husband so fairly easy to recall, now I've practised a bit) was a real professional at his craft and greets you like old friends even on your first stay, and he and the concierge team can't do enough to help. We were greeted in a similar manner at reception, that pitch-perfect 5 star service that while professional and obliging isn't grovelly or stiff, you know how much I like that and have a finely-tuned receptor for it in 5 star surroundings, it's what I pay for! The bar is gorgeous, and the staff there were friendly but slower than molasses in January in both serving/acknowledging us and getting all orders ready, it was a little painful to watch and given the bar was 3/4 empty not really excusable. They just need kind of a kick up the whatsit and a bit of training on using your own initiative, eg if someone is going back out to the terrace for a 3rd time to see what drink his child wants, and someone else is stood still waiting right there at the pump having asked you for just a half a lager, just pour it for them! But that, and a slightly snappy receptionist other than the lady who initially greeted us, were the only flaws in the service, and I only mention it because you know what a stickler I am for that, it's top of my list. Rooms are lush, spacious and well appointed, with all the little touches like turn-down, robes and slippers etc, and have the all-important nickable toiletries! Location is super for all of York and the station but also quietly tucked away from any major road, and we were in a corner ground floor room so presumably would have heard anything there was to hear. The grill restaurant served some top notch food but the atmosphere was a little stifled and 'hotel dining room flat'. Breakfast was as good as expected. Overall, I would say it ticks the 5 star boxes, didn't blow us away in any particular respect but a solid 5 star choice, and I'd book again on a secret escapes or similar.

This was our second visit to the Hotel and, once again, we were not disappointed. The attention to detail is excellent and the 'personal touch' of complimentary chocolate truffles, fruit, fizzy drinks and a card on my husband's birthday is the difference between a good hotel and an excellent hotel, so thanks to all the staff for making his birthday extra special. Just one small incident that the Housekeeping Manager may want to take note of: we returned to our hotel room on the Friday afternoon at 4.30pm having been out all day, and our bedroom had not been cleaned. We reported this and a member of staff came almost straight away but she told us that she had been very busy that day preparing rooms for new arrivals and so she had not had time to see to all the existing guests' bedrooms - perhaps a case of ensuring that more staff are available on busy days? Apart from that, we couldn't find fault with anything at all and we very much hope to be back for a third visit in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: All the rooms are spacious and sound proof so it doesn't matter which room you are allocated.
