I went to York mainly to see the Pauline Burbridge exhibit at the Quilt Museum. There was also an exhibit of Amy Emms work as well. Both were excellent, giving the background of each quilter and other information. The museum is housed in a beautifully restored St. Anthony's Hall.

We received a very warm welcome and the guide took the time to speak to us for quite a while. If you were interesting in textile crafts it would be very inspiring but it won't be to everyone's tastes. There is one main room and two smaller ones. You can touch some samples and see some historical items in the drawers. The shop has some lovely crafts to take home and try.

At £6 for an adult ticket the price might be offputting for some but if you like crafts there will be a lot of inspiration. There's a little peaceful garden too.

The website does say over 700 items in their collection but I can only assume they put them out a few at a time as there was only about 30.

This has to be the biggest rip-off in the UK - advertised as a museum with 800 quilts on display, is actually two small rooms with a few wall hangings. Do not waste your money. Absolutely disgusted.
And they do not respond to emails criticizing them. What a bunch of losers!!!!

i'm sorry you didn't enjoy your visit to the Museum. Our whole collection consists of 800 quilts and like most museums we only have space to display a selection of them. Our next exhibition from January is quilts from our collection. If you would like to return, please get in touch. I am also sorry you didn't get a reply to your email - this is definitely not our policy. If you would like to give us a call on the number on our site, we would be happy to respond.

Great little garden in the lee of the northern city walls (Jewbury) and attached to the museum. Perfect spot for a rest from sightseeing or shopping. Also a handy Italian cafe (and restaurant) with an entrance and terrace inside the gardens. The cafe, gardens and museum can have erratic opening hours so best to check before travelling.

The most wonderful museum and totally inspiring! Exhibitions change regularly and are beautifully displayed in the wonderful hall. One of my favourite places to visit when i am in York,There is alway somebody knowledgeable there to discuss the exhibits with.
