“Exactly what we needed.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

4 of us stayed in apartment 15 in Victoria Cloisters. Check in was smooth at the Queens hotel, as was checking out. The apartment was in a fantastic location and had all the amenities we needed. Very clean and cosy. I would most definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

We stayed here for three nights covering an Anniversary visit to York. We were in one of the larger one-bedroomed apartments on the first floor at the front. The position of the apartments is excellent, being only five minutes walk into the city centre over the Ouse Bridge. With a comprehensive bus network around York there is no need for a car between arrival and departure, but having on-site parking is an added bonus. We booked through Hoseasons which seems to "guarantee" a space with all but the smallest apartment; but with 16 apartments and only 9 parking spaces ensure you have a space included with your booking. Our apartment was modern, clean, well equipped and the bed extremely comfortable. Unfortunately being on the front we got continual noise from the security gate and parking gate clanging open and shut - someone from the building next door was complaining about this noise on our morning of departure! Whilst the road outside is reasonably quiet during midweek days unfortunately delivery lorries, refuse collectors, and the like seem to be constant visitors to the area from around 6-00am each day. Then on our last day it was highway vehicles and cranes from the crack of dawn; and the road got closed so that you could not easily get to the Queens Hotel to hand back the keys! Our only real problem with the apartment was with the bed-settee and armchair. They were both very low and uncomfortable; so we used all the pillows and cushions to raise ourselves up and try to get moderately comfortable. If you can get a deal we would definitely recommend these apartments for a visit to York - especially if the clanging gates can get fixed!

Room Tip: Try to get an apartment in the back block away from the gates and road.

We stayed in the Victoria Cloisters Apartments for two nights on a voucher deal. I was not disappointed. The apartments are situated in a quiet location but just a short five minute walk away from the the shops and all the attractions that York has to offer. We even had the added bonus of having our own private, secure parking for the duration of our trip. The apartments are part of the Queens Hotel which is a two minute walk from them and we went there for breakfast on both mornings.
The one bedroom apartment was bright, modern and spacious enough for two people. The only disappointment was that we could not open the patio style windows fully in the living area because of the venetian blinds. It was over 80 degrees when we stayed so the living area was very hot. However there was a small electric fan. Needless to say that we had this on constantly when we were in the apartment (which wasn't often during the day). Should we return to visit York I would definately try to book these apartments again.

Room Tip: The apartments are situated over four floors with two apartments on each floor. There are no lifts...

This trip was to celebrate a birthday, and booked by our friends, so I was a bit worried about what lay ahead, but from the start, everything was perfect.

We had a 2 bedroom apartment no12, 2 bathroom, and a balcony, carpark was very secure, everything was clean, a real treat, breakfast was at the hotel.

Great apartment in York

Room Tip: No 12 was fantastic, take a picnic basket and sit by the river.

Booked through a deal 2 nights b&b with secure parking for £180 for 4 people in central York i don't think we could have beat that deal. The apartment is just one street away from the queens hotel which was where we picked up keys and instruction for carpark also where we went for breakfast. The 2bedroom apartment was clean very well equipped and ideally located. We wouldn't want to have paid the official guide price which was in excess of £400 but the deal was great (i think groupon). We didn't have key to balcony but we rang hotel and they came straight over with a spare. And the rooms werent made up on the second date i don't know if that's usual but we managed with towels we had used rather than ringing up again. The breakfast was really very good hot and fresh with eggs made to order if requested. The cars were just below apartment and as it was a Sunday arrival we were able to use 2parking spaces which they couldn't guarantee but we were lucky. No views to speak of but only one street away from the river.

We booked two nights at the Victoria Cloisters via a Living Social deal which included breakfast at the nearby Queens Hotel and parking in the cloisters car park. Upon arrival you check in at the Queens which is 2 minutes walk from the apartments. We had apartment 7 which was one bedroomed but plenty big enough for two, there was also a sofa bed in the living room / kitchen. The apartment was clean and the lady who attended the apartments was polite and helpful, we didn't use any of the cooking facilities in the apartment but it was fully equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge and had all the crockery, pans and cutlery you would need. However be careful as a price list is included giving costs of any breakages or replacements required following your stay. We were shocked to discover there was also a £25 charge if you didn't empty the bins before you left! The only criticism of the apartment itself would be the patio doors on the living room / kitchen which are the only means of fresh air in the room. These had been fitted with a roller blind which stopped the doors from being opened more than an inch, this seemed ludicrous and I imagine would be annoying if you were to cook anything.

The cloisters are gated and parking is in a small central courtyard which could be quite tight if full. The gate to the cloisters was noisy and in our room we could hear every time it opened and closed, this could probably be easily fixed with a rubber pad on the gate. It was made worse as it rattled when every customer used their key to lock and unlock it, again a rubber pad would reduce this noise.

We did not experience any noise from the other apartments but the street outside was noisy when the windows were open with early morning deliveries.

Breakfast at the Queens was adequate but nothing to rave about, self service buffet style and the lady who greeted us was quite rude. As we got the breakfast as part of our deal it was OK value, however should we book the cloisters again without breakfast included we would go elsewhere for breakfast.

We booked a 2 night stay with parking via a well known 'daily deal' website, and we were so pleased with the apartment. The check in staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, and even let us leave the car in our parking space after check-out. The apartment was well equipped, clean and was in a superb location within walking distance to the city centre, Minster and Railway Museum to name but a few things. We wouldn't hesitate recommending Victoria Cloisters, and we would stay there again.
