“New Year's Eve Getaway”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Booked a one night stay for New Year's Eve - wished we could have stayed longer!! A wonderfully warm welcome right from the off, Ian and Julie and Family can't do enough for you and we appreciated it greatly. All very friendly and - although we did agree not to mention Leo - he guards the door extremely well with a loud but friendly bark! The room was big enough for our stay but for more space we would recommend booking early. Great value for money though and within 15 mins stroll into City. Also, full sets of keys allow you to come and go as you please.
We've already decided that a return visit is definitely on the cards for us and we would recommend this Guest House to anyone; singles, couples or families. Relatively new to the business, Ian and Julie are making a fabulous effort in running one of the most welcoming Guest Houses in York so don't think twice about booking a stay.

Room Tip: Book early for one of the bigger rooms. Also means you may not need to climb as many stairs if this...

The Old Vic Guest House is the best guest house in york. The king size room was spotless. The king size bed was luxurious it was a wonderful nights sleep. The bathroom was also spotless and very modern. We would recommend the guest house to anyone. The rooms are well priced for the comfort and welcoming and the facilities available. The breakfast menu is very appealing as there is a lot of varieties to choose from. The full english is GORGEOUS! Julie and Ian and their daughter are very welcoming and very polite. They will help you with any queries. Couldn't ask for better people! And not to forget their dog Leo, who is a very beautiful tame dog freindly dog. it was only a 15 minute walk into town, a two minute walk to sainsbury's and to Aldi which is very good for little bits and bobs. We are definitely going back in the near future. :)

Room Tip: we slept in the king size on suite room, would definitely recommend to anyone as it is a wonderful n...

This is the second time we've stayed here, spotlessly clean, made to feel very welcome, nothing is too much trouble, a lovely family including Leo the gorgeous dog!! Breakfasts are hearty and filling, best we've had. Highly recommend this lovely bed and breakfast. A lovely walk into town aswell, down by the river, took about 20 minutes.

We stayed for two nights and were welcomed by Julie and Leo the spaniel. The Old Vic is a superb family run B&B, the whole family are involved and all very keen to please the visitors. It is clean and extremely comfortable. Lovely warm rooms, as we stayed in November and extremely comfy beds. The breakfast was to die for and so beautifully cooked. The B&B is situated 10 minutes walk from the city centre, a beautiful riverside walk. There is on street parking and regular buses at the end of the road.We were stunned to find out that Julie and Ian had only taken over the business in June. No wonder they had been booked up ever since. We will definately return and would recommend to anyone.

Just come back from a weekend break at the Old Vic, stayed Saturday and Sunday, and what a find it is. We have always stayed in the monksgate area, so thought maybe a bit far out of town, but it has a lovely riverside walk into town, which is superb.
Checked into the guesthouse quickly and efficiently whilst having to fuss the gorgeous Leo the dog, then went up to the room. Everything you could want for a pleasant stay was there, comfy feeling room, excellent bed, en-suite,room lovely and warm, tv, tea and coffee all there.
We spent most of the days in town and it was very nice to get into to the room and settle down. The area is quiet so a good night's sleep was no problem. We went down for breakfast and after a warm welcome had a filling and superb cooked breakfast, as we did both days, no complaints at all.
On leaving we spoke to Julie and were totally surprised they had only been in the business a few months, the whole stay was so good it would seem they have been doing it for years. 10 out of 10 and look forward to our next trip.

Phil & Mandy.

Room Tip: All rooms are upstairs so check when booking which floor the room is on.
