Frier Tucks has been in Heworth Road for years, and has had a varied past. It went through a period of being very mediocre in the 80's and early 90's, despite having stiffer competition from the excellent Burnholme Fisheries in those days.
In more recent years, it has really turned around. Excellent quality fish and chips, nearly always freshly cooked as you wait, so no warm-ups here ! As stated in other reviews, there are various deals, which can save you a bit of cash if you want sauces or drinks with your order.
Definitely the best place for Fish & Chips in Heworth, do NOT go to the Chinese place in East Parade for them; unless you'd rather have a bag of grease with a few bits of undercooked potato stuck to the paper ! My only criticism of Frier Tucks is that it closes perhaps a little too early, particularly on a Friday and Saturday at 10.30pm. It used to be open until 11.30pm to catch the trade of those leaving the local pubs; of which I and many others were regular, loyal customers.
Just a side note, this is a take-away only, not a sit down restaurant.
