The restaurant is below street level (hence 'Go Down) and on evening we went outside temp was about 24 deg C so inside was a little warm for our liking. No air con although ceiling fans were on as were some stand alone ones. Luckily we had a table beside a window so had some more air.
That aside the whole evening was very good. The staff were attentive on entering and table was ready for us even although we turned up 15 mins early. Never felt rushed throughout the meal, although service to take our order could've been prompter. Restaurant was pretty much full and staff coped with this admirably.
Menu did not offer large number of options, however when food arrived it was obvious the focus was on quality rather than quantity.
I really enjoy my steaks (extremely blue) and the fillet I was presented with was one of the best I have tasted. Tender such that it melted in the mouth. Washed down with a good Rioja it was fabulous.
Owner (Penelope) was extremely pleasant taking time to talk about our visit to York, Wimbledon and also our meals !!!
All made for a great meal.
