As others have said superb location not far to wobble after a night out , beware some local brews are well strong ! Room 1 a bit small but very comfy and clean ,big fried breakfast to help with any self inflicted headache . Great place to visit

Room Tip: Ask for largest room

I do apologise for this 'late' review of this wonderful b&b.
We stayed here for only one night in August, and wished we had booked another night.
Cannot fault this comfortable place - warm, friendly welcome, comfortable room, tasty breakfast.

Our room was on the ground floor, which is good for mobility reasons, but be aware it is on the small size.
This didn't bother us, as we knew beforehand. It had everything we needed., including a fan so the room didn't overheat in this hot summer.
Clean and comfortable in all aspects. The shower room was also on the small size but had everything we needed.
Tea/coffee making facilities were good; the room even managed a trouser press. Comfortable bed.
Breakfast was cooked to order - a pre-order sheet to be filled in. I don't see this a problem, as then you order exactly what you want. Good selection of fruit/cereals.

Parking - this is at a premium in York. We chose this b&b because it advertised free parking. OK it is around the back of the property down a very narrow entrance so could be off putting for some. But it is free, and the big bonus is that the owner allows guests to remain parking there all day after they've checked out. That for me is a big plus.

The owners are friendly and only too willing to make your staying enjoyable. Location - great, only a short walk to all the sites. On a busy street, but our room at the back, was very quiet. Can't comment about the others. But this is a city location!

If we return to York, this b&b will be our first choice. Good value for money.

City guest is in an ideal location being 5 minutes walk from York Minster. My room was small but cosy and clean with comfortable bed, good shower, toiletries and towels, TV & radio & tea & coffee making facilities. The full English breakfast was delicious. The owner, Allan, was helpful, ordering a taxi for me and carrying bags up and down a narrow staircase, (which isn't good for anyone with mobility problems). A ground floor room is available but I overlooked asking about that when I booked.

Room Tip: Ask about ground floor room and stairs if you have moblity problems. Single bedroom a bit small, bu...

Great location to central York. Extremely friendly lady of the house, who was so accommodating and friendly. She makes this place special. Breakfast was good. The facilities were extremely clean. The rooms had everything you would expect for a B&B; had to ask for an iron as they are not provided in the rooms, but once we asked was v promptly provided. Rooms and dinning room were a little small and dated in decore, but at such a reasonable price we had no complaints. Oh and the shower was good quality and powerful.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms are en suite. Ours was and the shower was great.

We arrived a bit tense after a very long drive with less than half an hour to our dinner reservation in town. However our hosts were really welcoming and friendly and quickly got us to our room which was just what we needed.

The first night we were there it was a full house and we found ourselves in a room overlooking Monkgate. This wouldn't be a problem for anyone used to an urban life but for a pair of country dwellers not ideal for a tranquil sleep.

Our host Julie overheard us talking about it at breakfast and without being asked offered us to put us in a quieter room when she'd finished cleaning the rooms from that nights guests. That's the kind of service we all want but rarely receive.

Both rooms were well appointed, clean and comfortable again just what we all want to experience. Breakfast was excellent and we'd definitely recommend City Guest House for a York City Break as everything is within easy walking distance.

Myself and a friend wanted a b&b close to the heart of York which was clean, friendly and comfortable: and we found all of these attributes (and more) in the City Guest House. A hop, skip and jump from central York (and a 20 minute walk from the station) it was perfect for us to complete a days shopping on the Saturday to then be able to pop back and get dressed for a night on the tiles. The owners were so friendly and helpful and they take immense pride in keeping their establishment spotless. The room was plenty big enough (we had a double bed and single). THe stairs up to the room aren't suitable if you have mobility problems, but even with a few beverages in us we didn't find them an issue. The room was quiet though some traffic could be heard from the road which runs past - not an issue for me as I take ear plugs wherever I go! The beds were uber comfortable and there was ample pillows.
Breakfast was scrummy and there was a wide variety of cereals/yoghurts/fruits etc. Would recommend this place 100% and will definitly be going back there again. Value for money and if you want a great B&B to rest your wary limbs, look no further.

A very well run & maintained guest house only minutes from the heart of old York. Romms a little small with a shortage of hanging space but they were well appointed & very clean. Hosts Allan & Julie were very friendly and gave good advice regarding sights & good places to eat. Free parking is available behind the house but it requires negotiating a very narrow lane & then a 100m walk to the house. Make sure you drop your bags off first but street parking nearby is limited to 10mins & not easy to find.

Room Tip: Room 2 was easy to get to, reasonably quiet with a window on the street side.
