We had a great evening here. The food is delicious and the atmosphere delightful. All the seven dishes we tried were flavoursome but we thought the tuna to be the best. Will definitely be going back.

The chefs are busy with prep in the kitchen was the reponse we got to everthing that was bad with our experience at Ambiente. It was New Years Eve afternoon and I appreciate that they were getting ready for a busy evening service, but if you are going to take bookings for 3pm you need to be able to multitask and get the food out on time and in an edible state - neither of which we had. After waiting ages for the food to arrive, to say that it was average would be stretching the truth. We had a portion of chicken and chorizo which had one piece of chorizo and one piece of chicken, the rest of the dish was made up of a handful of peppers. And even that one lonley piece of chorizo was burnt and inedible - not what you expect from a dish costing around £4. The rissotto and mozzarella balls didn't live up to much either - they were very bland and you needed a magnifying glass to spot the cheese. The Albondigas promised a lot on the menu, but were very dry and tasted as if they had come striaght from the microwave rather than taking you on a jorney to a spanish tpapas restaurant. We should have guessed really when 3 of thte dishes we had ordered were no longer available, so why open for service if you have no food and know that you will be busy preping in the kitchen!

When we did mention the poor standard of food we were offered no compensation, but instead told that hopefully this wouldn't put us of coming again. Well it has and I would not be recommending this place any time soon.

One good point was some nice wine and sparkling water - but somehow I don't think these were bottled on the premisis!!!

By far and away the best tapas we have ever eaten. Great little restaurant with really helpful staff. Wine recommended was an excellent jumilla Rioja instead of the unavailable graciano Rioja. An excellent wine, unfortunately liked by my other half!!! Food delicious - thoroughly recommend the black pudding and the chorizo with potatoes, a sauce to die for!
The crime brûlée was lovely but the crowning glory was the sherry menu. The San emelio moscatel is to die for. I will be buying some bottles.

The choice of dishes is terrific and the staff are lovely. Very friendly atmosphere with just the right level of buzz. The selection on sherries available is really interesting. I highly recommended this place for any time of the day.

We visited recently for an early evening dinner. The staff were friendly and service was good. We had a lovely bottle of wine which was well chilled. We spend a lot of time in Spain so maybe our expectations were too high but the food was very poor. Gambas pil pil were lukewarm and tasteless. We sent back tempura vegetables which were inedible - they included potatoes which were virtually raw and a large chunk of red cabbage which was really unpleasant. Salt cod croquettes had no flavour and weren't very warm. Other dishes were just ok. A real shame as we live in York and would have returned on a regular basis if the food had been good. Sadly, we won't be back.
