We stayed overnight in a tiny double room, but for one night it was fine. Very warm welcome from Lena, she is bright and bubbly and very friendly. The one great blessing is the parking and short walk to the city. York is a nightmare to drive or park in, my advice ....Don't do it! So to lock up the car and walk along the river to browse York was delightful. Breakfast was great, even Porridge on offer, a treat. Recommended for a city based stay.

We had a lovely 4 nights staying in one of the family rooms. The party comprised of me and my 3 daughters (aged 15, 13 and 10). Right from the beginning, when we booked our stay over the phone, we were made to feel welcome. On arrivial we were greeted warmly and shown to the room - a large, ground floor room with one double and two singles plus en suite and still plenty of room to accomodate all the bags of clothes shopping that we managed to accrue during our stay!
An easy 10 minute walk into York via the road or a more relaxing 25 minute walk via the river. Having parking on site was an added bonus. We had a lovely stay and would definitely book again.

A wonderful, warm welcome from the manager of this guest house. I stayed 2 nights with my 2 children and totally enjoyed every minute. We walked into York every day and it really was less than the 10 minute walk suggested. The guest house is situated in a quiet area and we enjoyed walking past the unique shops and coffee houses on our route into the city. The staff could not have offered a better service and were so helpful as to where to visit, how to get there and where to park. The rooms were spotless and we did not appreciate how full the house was as we did not hear a noise at night and yet at breakfast every table was full. The breakfast was fantastic. You really could not book a better guest house so close to the city center which was welcoming, very clean and excellent food and service. I will be having a return visit.

Could have asked for nothing better. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome, valued guests. Booked 2 rooms, both ultra clean, tidy, enough room in both and great value. Breakfasts were great, quickly served every morning with a smile and chat from Lena our fabulous hostess, for whom nothing was to much trouble Beds were comfortable, clean and a decent size. Lovely walk into the centre of the city, there is also a bus stop directly outside and the opentop sightseeing buses have a stop 2 minutes down the street. We will hopefully visit again when in the area and would recommend to everyone we know

I stayed here for 3 nights this week as I study in York and had exams. The b&b is ideal, perfectly located for York centre, about a 10 minute walk, some parking out the back and parking on the road in front. My room was a single and very small, but I'm not complaining because there's nothing they can do about that in a converted Victorian house! The room was absolutely spotless and the bathroom was brand new. The couple who run this place are fantastic, so friendly and helpful. And the all English breakfast was perfect!

Having stayed at Hillcrest Guesthouse once before, it was an easy choice for my second visit in York. I yet again felt very welcome, and even got the same room as my last stay. A room just perfect for my needs; en-suite bathroom and on the second floor. In the morning you are served delicious breakfast, both English breakfast and cereals and other selections. The guesthouse about a 10-15 minutes walk away from the centre of York, which I like because it is quiet at night. Close by there is a street with shops and restaurants, so you don't have to go to the centre of town to buy food and snacks. The guesthouse lies close by a park, which is nice. And it also has parking close by. I am definitely coming back to Hillcrest Guesthouse.

Room Tip: Very welcoming staff.

The perfect place to stay for a trip to York. We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 3 children for 2 nights in July. We were made to feel very welcome, very homely and a fantastic breakfast! It is ideally situated for a walk into the city centre and would definitely recommend a stay here.
