I've just returned from a blissful week with Lisa and Graham at their lovely shepherds hut. It was a first for me staying in a shepherds hut. I did the off grid for 2 days which was a great experience then they kindly moved me to the one with electricity.
I loved both and would do either again but being a writer, I needed the laptop continually.
The huts have everything and are comfortable, safe and snug and toasty when the wood burners are lit.
Meadowbeck is an ideal base - perfectly placed for Whitby and east coastal towns and also the North Yorkshire Moors. There's a cafe just up the track on the main road and a pub, garage and corner shop. But what really sets it apart is the setting with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside to the sea. And of course, Lisa and Graham, who are super welcoming hosts and on hand for anything I needed.
All in all this proved a wonderful peaceful haven, at one with nature and 'away from it all' - perfect for a writing retreat. Usually when I've been away from home for a week I look forward to getting back but I can honestly say I could have stayed a further week! I'll definitely return!
We stayed for a few days in Cowslip Cottage and it was everything we wanted it to be - warm and cosy and a great place to explore the area. Lisa and Graham were so welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area - walking directions were spot on! It was icy and snowy during our stay and we were offered great advice and support! The bus route at the top of the drive was excellent and was the main way we got around.
the cottage was very clean, had absolutely everything we needed and we would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone wanting to stay in a wonderful cottage.
I have always waned to have a shepherds of my own and what better way to find out what it would be like then to stay in one. We arrived mid afternoon to be greeted by smiley Graham .. unfortunatly Lisa was ill with flu..who showed us everything about the hut..parking..the games room next door even an honesty box for beers.. a lovely walk to Boggle Hole The Flask coffee house for breakfast.. he couldnt be more helpful. The hut was just as i imagined.. it was just right.. tastefully done nice and cosy Lisa and Graham had thought of everything. And the sea view from the stable door was the icing on the cake. Thankyou for our stay we will be back..
Stayed at this beautiful place for a short break before our honeymoon. The location was perfect as we love Robin Hoods Bay & you could see it from the door.
Lisa & Graham are really good souls & made us so welcome. If you're a Leeds Utd fan this place is a must!!
The hut was perfect & had everything we needed for a short break. If you want a rustic break with a touch of luxury this place is highly recommended. Thanks for having us, we will be back
Excellent place to stay and wonderful hosts at the farm, made you feel very welcome. Great place to go bird spotting and would have been a lot better if weather was good, rained the 3 days we stayed. Due to the weather been rather miserable and cold for the duration of the stay we did have a few issues which was the rocking chairs was rather uncomfortable after a while of sitting on them ( if weather was better wouldn't have mattered as we would have been out a lot more). Also the chairs could have been lower so that you could have put your legs under the table. Other than that a lovely cosy place to stay and the bed was really comfy, shower was lovely and hot ( again weather made it a bit bad as it was outside). Overall very nice place and would highly reccomend, also the flask Inn serves really good quality food. Would give you a score of 10 but only lets me give 5
My wife and I had a fantastic stay at the Shepherds Hut, Meadowbeck for our first wedding anniversary. We visited Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby and did plenty of walks as well as enjoying the local food and drink. Lisa and Graham were kind enough to allow me to 'set' the hut up for my wife the day before which included leaving flowers and having a picture on the wall for her. They were very accommodating and friendly and gave us plenty of ideas for walks and things to do whilst allowing us to get on with our holiday nicely. The hut was fantastic, small but ideal for a short weekend away, in many ways better than staying in more 'high end' accommodation as it felt more personal and was really well done with some nice décor and clean and warm inside. And use of the 'games barn' which included a bar, poor table etc was very welcomed too. Perfect. Thanks to Lisa and Graham.
