Just spent 3 great days in Whitby but unfortunately the 2 nights stay in the Duke of York were not so great.
The room was tiny and could just squeeze past the bed. The toilet/shower room was even smaller - probably a cupboard in a previous life. It was so cramped that I could not sit properly on the toilet without hitting the shower cubicle with my knees!
The room was clean and the bed comfortable but that is all I can say in its favour. There were tea & coffee facilities but the mugs were not changed or even washed from day to day.
My husband and I could have been invisible to staff as we never saw anyone apart from the bar maid who gave us our keys on arrival and the cleaner, who was the only person in the bar, on our departure.
The cost of £60 was not good value as this was for room only. No breakfast was included or available on the premises.
I loved Whitby and enjoyed the Gala Steam Train and 60's Spectacular weekend which in some ways compensated for the accommodation.More
