Were good. The other two ....

First a starter served cold and then a main served too hot.

Four of us ate here on a busy Saturday night and thankfully were shown into the top seating area, otherwise it would have proved very noisy. Although this area proved to be very hot. Once served it was quickly established one of the starters was still cold in the middle. The dish was replaced with a fresh one, but then the rest of us were out of step. Staff were apologetic, but obviously very busy. Once the mains were out, after a few mouthfuls, way too much chili in the linguine. Once mentioned to the waiter removing the barely touched dish the response to the comment was 'it does say chili on the menu' or something to that effect. No apology forthcoming this time!!

However, the dish was not on the bill, and eventually, we had already noticed at this point, this was pointed out when money was put forward, so was not charged for. All in all the two of us with do problems had a good meal in a hot busy restaurant and the other two, one left hungry. Kind of put a blight on the evening.

Our third time to this restaurant & again it was very good. The food was hot & served in good time being it was a Friday night. I chose the pan fried king scallops with slow roasted pork belly, pea purée & chorizo. This was delicious & washed down well with a good white wine from Portugal. Service was good & the staff very pleasant. We had a table for two in the dining room at the rear which was quieter than the front room bar area.

If your planning of a little treat, and you like Oysters then this is the place for you. After a disastrous meal, the evening before, we found we were in dire need of a lighter and more delicate lunch. The oysters were milky and plump, and the red wine and finely chopped shallots brought out their superb taste. Washed down with a bottle of house Champagne it was an experience of pure decadence, and one which we lingered over as we sat at one of the window tables watching the whole of Whitby go by. An excellent meal, as always.

As the title suggests the staff here wete far too busy. What with dtacking bottles and glasses. No eye contact nor even acknowledgement that we were at the bar.

After 3 minutes, and no one else waiting to be served, we upped stix and left.

My philosophy 7s that if someone doesn't eznt your money there ate snother 5 that do.

Wetherspoons are generally just 8k. Barns of places but so many 8f tjem have so few staff and those that are, generally, aren't interested. Without customers they wouldn't have a job but when you're working in a huge combine the nitty gritty 8f setvice evaporates.

Lots of other pubs in Whitby. Don't really know why we wrnt but we won't he back. Pethaps I shouldn't make judgment on a single visit ..., but I have!

We love to go for early morning walks in Whitby and this place is always open early so its great for a great coffee to warm us up first thing after the walk and excellent food. Friendly staff and great views on the harbour side with heaters for those who love to sit outside like us.
