“Charming - Accommodation and Staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

Just spent a fab weekend in Whitby, staying in the Old Dispensary. The cottage was perfect for our needs and with the added bonus of an excellent breakfast each morning.
Becca, Ian and the team at Sanders Yard are great, nothing is too much trouble, and at risk of not being able to get in when we want next time - We totally recommend it.

Room Tip: The Old Dispensary is quiet and self-contained and allows the option of Self-catering, but we have s...

We turned up at this B&B without a booking with a party of five, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. They gave us a self-contained cottage with three bedrooms and a family bathroom. One of the bedrooms is a kids' room with small beds, though, so one of us had to re-live their childhood for a night... The cottage was clean, although it hadn't been aired and smelled a bit musty, but this may have been because we arrived unannounced. The location is great - it's right in the heart of Whitby. The cooked breakfast wasn't bad either, and we'd probably return if we come to Whitby again.

Welcoming reception upon arrival and we were brought to a spacious attractive room. The bathroom was nice and had a large claw foot bathtub for soaking, however it had no shower so that was a bit of an inconvenience. Our room overlooked the lovely patio and the backdoor to the B&B opened right out to the main street which was filled with charming shops. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and filling.

3rd time next weekend, love the place and I have been visiting Whitby for a good few years. No pretence just excellent service and well cooked food. You can take in the best of old Whitby and enjoy a few drinks, then walk home whilst enjoying yesteryear as portrayed in the 'Heartbeat' TV series.
Fiat panda, jag or something more exotic there is nowhere to park for a long period of time within 500m of SY, but so what. Whilst Whitby has been forced to go with the times and exchange a fishing fleet for tourists it still has the character that attracted my parents and there after me to the place.
When the town goes dark and quiet my advice would be a good book unless you are interseted in Captain Cook or Dracula.
Still the best place to walk early doors if you want to feel the past!

We stayed 3 nights in the Attic room . Two adults and a baby. Good sized family room with separate bedroom and seating area which was handy for our travel cot. It had all the usual facilities including TV/DVD Combo. Guests of the room enjoy use of a separate bathroom which is spacious and modern.
When we arrived we were given complementary drinks and staff took our luggage up to our room whilst we had lunch in the restaurant. Caters very well for children and special dietary requirements. Slept well and was always quiet in the evening and had a lovely filling breakfast each morning.
Located in the Market Square area near the clock tower. Although you can park your car outside the premises for a short while to unload the premises does not have any customer parking so we would recommend obtaining a parking permit from tourist information prior to checking in at the hotel..

Room Tip: Some low beams in the attic may be unsuitable for taller guests.

such a brillliant location, a wonderful courtyard and fabulous food.
we stayed in room 2, it was just perfect, with generous welcome pack, the staff thought of everything in the room, wine glasses, cork screw, bottle opener, tea coffee biscuits, everything you could possibly need and replaced daily
although no hanging space for clothes so not brill for more than a weekend stay and no shower but a wonderful roll top bath.
hairdryer was included in the room too as was tv
the staff were really helpful and friendly
would stay again and would recommend

Stayed one night Sat 11/8/12, it had sky, hair dryer and lots of hot drinks and bottle opener in your room. Down side mirrors in wrong places in our room didn't make it easy to get ready and no shelves in the bathroom to store your things and not enough hanging space. No shower but had a clean roll top bath. Bed was bliss and the pillows; having just stayed in a Holiday Inn one day before for 3 days I needed my back and neck realigning! Breakfast was spot on and tasty. People have given this place terrible score due to the seagulls keeping you awake! It's the B&B's fault for this? Yes they are noisy and they are on the roof but it's part of staying at the seaside! Also that the building which is over 150 years old has low ceilings and doors it will it's old! It's called character! They’re not that low and my boyfriend who is 6ft5 and just had to lower his head through the doorway. Our room was above the kitchens, staff needs to keep their voices down we hear everything above! Don't let this put you off though I would stay there again
