Me and my partner stayed here during the Folk Festival in August 2011. Tina and Alan who run the house were so warm and welcoming and could not do enough to make us feel welcome. The room was fantastic, cosy and kept immaculately clean. The breakfast was lovely each morning, and it was no problem when asking for changes to the menu that was usually served. Tina and Alan even helped us when we were caught in a sudden downpour and our clothes were soaked through, by taking the time out of their day to dry them for us. Overall High Tor Guest house was a fantastic place to stay and we definitely be staying here the next time we visit Whitby!

Stayed Bank Holiday weekend in room 4, a deluxe on 2nd floor.
King Size bed very comfortable, decent pillows too. Quite a large room.
Good sized wardrobe, LCD TV, drinks tray, bottle opener & wine glasses, hairdrier, leather settee, dressing table.
Large walk in shower, powerful too considering on 2nd floor. Twin sinks.
Breakfast was really good, cereals, grapefruit segments, fresh fruit basket, orange juice, yoghurts self service. Then full english or scrambled eggs on toast, poached eggs on toast etc. A very hearty breakfast with good quality ingredients all locally sourced.
Guest House conveniently located - 2 minutes and you're on the North Promenade or 2 minutes downhill and you're in Whitby centre.
Parking free and onstreet although could be tricky to find a space on the street of the Guest House.
2nd visit to Whitby and would certainly return to High Tor - due to location, rooms, and price: £70 night for the deluxe room.
Only a 10-15 minute walk along the North Promenade to Number One restaurant which is a little off the tourist map but very good food and reasonably priced.

This is our second stay at High Tor Guesthouse in Whitby, booked as a 50th Birthday present for my partner. Alan and Tina are fantastic hosts and run a wonderful guest house 2 mins from the sea front and 1 min from the shops, with free street parking outside and around the local neighbourhood. Note: SatNav refers to Normanby Terrace as John Street.

All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean with modern ensuite facilities. The free complimentary tea/coffee is plentiful and replenished daily.

Breakfast is the best we have ever had in any hotel or guesthouse - cereals, yogurts, grapefruit segments, fresh fruit, full english, scrambled eggs, tea, coffee and toast. Superbly cooked using fresh local produce, it certainly keeps you going all day.

This is definitely the best guesthouse we have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: The higher the room number, the more stairs you have to climb!

Been to Whitby a few times now, stayed in various B+B's and High Tor rates as one of the best. Clean, welcoming hosts and as I said in the title a great breakfast, probably the best we've had. Highly recommended.
