What can i say..... We've just got back from a lovely weekend away at Country cottage, absolutely everything was perfect. Lovely & peaceful, went to see the sheep & the pig didn't get to see the barking duck though but hopefully when we come again in 2 weeks time we'll see her. Everything was in the cottage that we needed, even washing up liquid! Would definitely recommend a few days away here!

Excellent services if you have dogs, excellent area for dog walking, close to amenities but quite enough out of the way

We had a wonderful weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at country cottage. It was exactly as described, clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to find somewhere we could take both ours and our friends dogs to and so reasonably priced. The mattresses could do with upgrading as the springs can be felt, but cannot grumble for the price it was. Perfect location with lovely local walks and a fabulous beach. We will definitely be returning.

People that prefer to eat at home in the evening rather than eating out need to know there are no facilities for storing frozen food - the fridge is small with no freezer compartment and there is no separate freezer. The cooker is out of the Ark. If you are fussy about bedding, pillows and towels - take your own. Those provided are old, worn, rough, grey, and threadbare in places. The crockery was just about adequate for 2 adults. The lounge furniture is stained. The whole cottage could do with some TLC and updating. On the up side, the location is excellent. It is dog friendly with a nice playground for children, and the wifi was good..

Nice spot to stay for a couple of days and good value. Clean enough but would really benefit from a deep clean, redecorating plus a new double mattress - looking a bit tired now.
All said I would recommend on the basis of value.

“Ducks that think they are a dog....loved it here”

Dog - Friendly facilities - This accommodation and adjacent barn conversions were excellent if you are travelling with dogs. Old rustic charm, fields set aside as meadows and woodlands surround you. No sheep or cattle around. Bliss. Safe area outside away from cars/ main road, plenty of rough and long grass and a fantastic blue bell wood at the bottom of the field, with a stream which the Labradors loved. Long walks along the old railway line to Scarborough here also and if your dogs are old and can't do the moors or the hills anymore they will enjoy a pootle along this railway line as it is nice and flat. We loved it here and sat outside most of the day. There are ducks, geese and hens in a huge pen in the field with one or two escapees so best to check the coast is clear/ put dogs on leads before letting your dogs loose. The hens keep out of the way mostly though, except one duck who thinks it is a dog and happily sat in amongst my dogs playing with them most of the day. Country cottage nearest the field is the best one to book if you have dogs as you have the seating area and the dogs play in the field/ lie on the grass. For families at the other end there is a children's play area/ outside picnic area.
Accommodation - The owners are great as they just let us get on with it, but were there if we needed them. We had everything we needed and the accommodation, was clean, warm and comfortable, and great value for money. I was delighted to see no extras for heating, electricity, bedding or towels and no manual on the series of fines if you break a cup! Common sense here, no hidden extra costs. No freezer here so if you are staying for a while just go to the shop - Sainsbury is 5 minutes by car at the bottom of the road.
Whitby - Very, very busy, hard to get parked day or night. But a pretty harbour and tons of nice eating places. But you are on the edge of the moors so no amount of wide open spaces away from the crowds just on your doorstep and long stretches of coastline north and south of the town.
Great location, close to town but cottage more like a country retreat. I'd recommend it to anyone.

“Lovely - great to find somewhere that does 1-night stays!”

We were so pleased to find somewhere that does short (eg 1 night!) breaks, as hotels aren't an option when you've a furry friend in tow.

Country Cottage is a lovely cottage and ideal if you like peace and quiet and your own space as it's situated at the end, looking out over a field, with carparking right outside.
Has everything you need and other than a very sticky front door (which does need some attention) it was great for what we needed and good value. We're going back in March all being well!

Sainsbury is walking distance if you've forgotten something, and there are also 2 pubs serving food within walking distance (we went to the Marstons one next to Sainsbury and it was lovely), it's close to Whitby (couple of miles if you don't fancy taking your car) but also easy to jump in the car and drive to Scarborough as it's just off the Scarborough/Whitby road.
