Stayed on a Friday night. Boked in early at 12.30pm which was not a problem for the staff. Stayed in a gallery room (£100) which is part of a converted stable block, on entering the room it has a two seater sofa facing a modern LCD TV. The shower room was modern, clean and spacious. Above the main room was a mezzanine bedroom very clean and comfortable. The room was heated by under floor heating which did an amazing job on a cold January night.
Overall the room was fitted out very well and we had no complaints.
Not knowing what to expect from the restaurant with the sign outside stating "No fast food, just good food bar meals to a-la carte, done as fast as we can!"
Dined from the bar menu at lunchtime, had fresh scampi which was cooked well and a generous portion served with vegetables, salad and home made chips. Delicious food with good friendly service.
Dined again in the evening from the a-la carte menu, great fillet steaks recommended, appears a little pricey at first compared to other restaurants but when you consider the meat is bought locally and all side dishes are included the overall experience was delightful. Good wine, food and service.
Being an extensive business traveller this is definitely a welcome change from the bland experience at the larger hotels.

Stayed here end of July 06.
Bills itself as a restaurant with rooms.
The 'rooms' are lovely. The place used to be a working a farm but after foot and mouth the place was burnt to the ground and after giving it another 'go' the farmer said he lost heart and decided to rebuild it as a restaurant with rooms. It is obvious by the statement in the inroom reading that the family are enbittered by the way the F&M was dealt with.
This, however, has not had any knock on effects of the place. the accommadation is set in a small court with water features in the courtyard. Charming.
Different rooms, from a standard double to a four poster.
No expense has been spared and you can tell this has been a labour of love for the family. No bog standard corporate stuff here.
We ordered fresh whitby kippers and full english for breakfast, not the best we have had but still nice and not really nothing to complain about.
We ate dinner, which had a nice menu. A word of warning, dont order starters. It does not matter what you order with your main, it comes with chips fried in goose fat, boiled potatoes, cauliflower chesse and fine beans. We could only manage a little of the 'extras', which I thought was a waste.
When we asked why they supplied all of this, we were told it was mainly for locals who were sick of small portions and paying more money for the veg ordered in restaurants.
the service was not the best but always delivered with a smile. We asked for wine and the waiter plonked it on the table with a smile and and 'there you are' which we laughed at after.
It is clear this family run business does well with the locals and it was a home from home. I had a head ache and a member of staff went to a local shop to get me painkillers, the Dad dropped us off in the town, when we asked which way was the best to head to town. Fantastic.
Its clear to see that no apologies are made to guests who like the type of service they would get at the usual corporate/chain hotels but then that may be part of its charm.
