Having called here for a meal while visiting Whitby last year we asked to see the rooms.
On the strength of that dining experience and having viewed the rooms we retuned this week for an overnight stay.
We stayed in room 3 as it was the only available room at short notice. Room 3 is 1 of 2 balcony rooms, the other being room 6, at the top of the price range. The bed is on a balcony raised above the main room.Very interesting layout and very well done.
The bed was comfortable and clean but 1 side was against the apex of the roof so being 6FT I took the other side. The electric Velox roof window was a nice touch.
Down stairs a large screen tv and reclining leather settee were set on stone flags with underfloor heating.
The bathroom had a separate shower and a Jacuzzi bath (which I enjoyed after a long days walking) and was nicely laid out clean and spacious.
The breakfast was included in the price, even though I could not find this info anywhere on the web site or at the hotel.Breakfast was nicely cooked and presented with good quality produce.
Having dined here last year and my wife being a veterinarian we had high expectations for out evening meal. We were not disappointed - my wife had the onion tart let while I had the chicken sizzler. Both meals were excellent and substantial enough to satisfy both of us without the need to fill up with a sweet.
The bar has a good selection of Whiskey and a chose of larger as well as 1 electric beer but from my point of view was let down by a lack of hand pulled beer.
All in all a very nice stay.
A bit on the pricey side but anyone planning to stay knows this when booking.
Just a few miles from Whitby and Robin hoods bay both worth a visit but ware sensible foot ware when visiting Robin hoods bay you will need them.

Room Tip: Room 3 and I believe room 6 are the balcony rooms a bit more expensive than the other rooms but a li...

I went to a wedding here last summer. The set up with a marquee attached to the back of the building worked really well. The bar at the top with the seating and dance floor at the bottom, outside was perfect (weather was good) with the pond and gazebo in the middle, nice service (a bit awkward to see/hear with a lot of guests and fountains on). The food was a hot and cold buffet with food from around the world, curries, fish, meat, Asian. It was brilliant, I tried most of the different dishes and they were all really good. Top day, great place for a wedding or just for something to eat.

The "Crossbutts & Stables hotel have got a perfect balance on location, food & accommodation. A quirky comfortable, friendly and affordable hotel in a quiet location (just North of Whitby & Scarborough), lovely gardens/surroundings for relaxing in (ah it was soooo nice to just "chill out" here for 4 nights) Staff couldn't have been more helpful and are always on hand should you need anything. This was our second visit and we don't intend it to be our last (Will be back asap).

Room Tip: Ideal place for relaxing in the country side.

Thank you everyone at The Stables. Absolutely fabulous evening, lovely meal & excellent service. Recommend it, 1st class, not one complaint from 23 diners which is hard to achieve, the salmon inparticular was gorgeous.

From the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left we were made to feel welcome by the lovely staff. We stayed in stable no 7 which was cosy, clean and comfortable. We decided to have dinner in the restaurant and I had prawn cocktail which was delicious followed by scallop which was cooked to perfection. My Husband 's steak in his words was magnificent and we shared the beautiful profiterole swans which were lovely. Fantastic breakfast the next morning overlooking a beautiful view. All in all a very lovely time and we will definitely be coming back.

Recently stayed for two nights after previously visiting on numerous occasions with family for meals. The accommodation was excellent and really comfortable. The food on every occasion we have been fortunate to dine here has been exceptional! The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The surroundings are exceptional and the amenities for the kids are fantastic especially the Gruffalo's Den. The owners obviously take great pride in the Stables. We cannot wait to visit again.

We recently enjoyed an overnight stay at the Cross Butts to celebrate our anniversary. In keeping with the occasion we booked Anniversary Stable 6 - we were not disappointed. What you see in the promotional photograph is exactly what you get. Accessible by a pretty courtyard the room was large, immaculate and beautifully furnished; the large four poster bed so comfortable. The small bottle of prosecco and truffles added to the occasion. The bathroom was well equipped with a large spa bath and separate walk-in shower, both with piping hot water.

We dined in the pleasant restaurant overlooking the gardens and beautiful countryside. The menu was interesting with an array of dishes. Having finally made up our minds we enjoyed artistically presented, beautifully cooked meals, accompanied by a gorgeous bottle of fizz (the wine list is not extensive but features quality).

Before and after our meal we sat at the well stocked bar where we enjoyed aperitifs, after dinner drinks and speciality coffees, chatting with wonderfully efficient and friendly staff.

Breakfast the following morning mirrored the previous evening - great surroundings, quality food, super staff.

The Cross Butts is a great family ran establishment with wonderful staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, (and purchased a dozen free-range eggs to take home). We will, most definitely, return.
