“Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

We had a one night stay in the Ruswarp room, TV on the chest of draws, hard to view if sitting on the chairs or from the bed, the shower room was average, no heated towel rail and the finish to the tiling and decor was not the best, bedding was average and not high quality as you would find in other places claiming to be of similiar quality, the mirror was not fixed to the wall and as my wife pointed out there was no where for a lady to sit and dry her hair/apply make up. The room whilst fairly clean would have benefited from a dusting. Breakfast was average and served efficiently, I do not think it warrrants the "executive" tag they give it, it is overpiced and other than a four poster bed I could not see what else was special about the room, I'm quite confident there would be similar places in the area for far less.

Stayed in the "Whitby" room at very short notice last weekend - the room was beautiful, lovely decor and the en suite bathroom was very impressive. We had stayed at this guesthouse 3 years ago possibly when it had been newly refurbished and were very impressed then - the whole house looks just as good as it did then; excellent value for money, can't recommend this highly enough.

Have just returned home after staying at this very nice guesthouse. It was a last minute booking, only the day before we arrived. We stayed in the Whitby room,it is tastefully decorated, comfy bed and nice and warm, very cosy. The bathhroom is large with a bath and seperate modern spacious shower. The owners are very nice people, and the breakfast was also good and well presented.Only stayed for one night but would have liked to have stayed longer.Would recommend this place to anyone.

Great big refurbished Victorian guesthouse. Very well decorated and very much in keeping with the period of the house. The room (Ruswarp) was tastefully appointed with a very good sized en-suite with spacious shower. Breakfast is a good hearty affair with cereals and fresh fruit juices and fruit. Full english followed but can be substituted by Scrambled eggs and Salmon or Whitby kippers. We stayed for the Whitby Goth Weekend and took part in Victorian style Goth outfits which fitted perfectly with the house so it was easy to feel part of the furniture. The room was a comfortable temperature and the windows can be opened properly to allow ventilation. Wardrobe access was a little restricted without slightly re-arranging the furniture. The 4 poster was very comfortable although it does dominate the room and possibly makes things a little tight for space (e.g. Wardrobe access). Tea, coffee & hot chocolate with biscuits provided. For the ladies, you may struggle for a surface to put your make up on near a mirror although there was one fixed and one unattached full length mirror so we just moved it where we needed it. The owners Jayne & Steve are very friendly and helpful. Parking is a little tight, but to be honest, it's 5 minutes walk into the town (a little longer coming back as it's up hill and a I mean up hill).

We stayed in the Runswick room it has good comfortable king sized leather sleigh bed and a good shower the room was a tad noisey due to being on a main road and from the floor above. Breakfast was ok cereal fruit and the option of a full English kippers or scrambled eggs with salmon but why only served from 9 till 9:30? We missed breakfast on the last day as we had slept in but hey it's not the end of the world we managed too get a table at the famous Magpie cafe as it opened! Could do with a lick of paint and decorating as some of the decor is looking a bit tatty in places and for £100 a night people expect a lot especially in these austaire times.
