“Lovely Anniversary Stay”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We chose The Resolution to stay for our first wedding anniversary weekend, staying for two nights. The hotel is in a great location, very central, though there is no on-site parking and the local car-park costs £5.00 for 24 hours or £9.00 for 48 hours.

We chose the four-poster bedroom with a view, and it was really lovely, with beautiful views of the abbey and the quayside. The facilities were good; plenty of tea, coffee & biscuits, flat-screen tv and a music system, plus a few toiletries. We also had an electric fan, which helped make two very warm evenings much more comfortable. Although some previous reviewers have said that they would have like air-con, we really enjoyed sitting with the fan on and the window pushed up a bit, to get that authentic holiday feeling! Pease be aware that the free wi-fi only applies to public areas on the ground floor, and is not available in the bedrooms...

The staff at the hotel were all so nice and really friendly and helpful. We were asked if everything was okay lots of times, the staff were very attentive and really chatty & welcoming. The cleaning staff were very effecient, providing plenty of replenishments both mornings. The only slight disappointment was that they were knocking on the bedroom door at 10.30 on the Sunday morning to clean our room. We didn't realise the check-out time was so early! Most hotels have an 11.00 check-out, and usually 12.00 on Sundays (day of rest!) so we both felt this was far too early. We would rather have had a later check-in time so we could enjoy a relaxing Sunday morning in our lovely room...

We didn't have an evening meal at the hotel, but we have heard rave reviews from friends about the tasty, good-sized meals. The breakfast buffet is plentiful, and again the staff are really efficient and helpful. I was concerned, as a vegetarian, that the eggs and fried bread were in the same tray as the black pudding, and that people were using the same tongs to plate up bacon & sausages as they were for the mushrooms and hash browns. When I enquired about this, I was given a freshly-made plate of breakfast, all cooked separatley, which I really appreciated. And it was very tasty, especially the hash browns! I would like to see separate trays and utensils next time... Not just for veggies, but because some people do unfortunately have some pretty serious food allergies.

The evening entertainment was great, both the live music in the main bar and the mowtown disco in The Vault. The atmosphere was really lively, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The music was upbeat and fun, and it didn't disturb us upstairs in the room as it was just at a pleasant background level. It really added to the holiday feeling and made the weekend more enjoyable...

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Resolution, and we will definitely be returning next year for our second anniversary! Hopefully we will be able to stay in the same room again!

Hghly recommended to anyone wanting a fun break away with happy, friendly staff and a great central location.

The positives out way the negatives in this hotel, excellent location, just 3 minutes walk to the harbour, the staff were polite and efficient from the receptionist to bar and breakfast staff, booked an evening meal in the hotel which was superb both in quality and price,a proper english breakfast to suit everyones taste was another positive. The rooms are quite small as mentioned in previous reviews, and no room for a chair which was a bit disappointing but the room was clean and comfortable with a wall mounted tv.Only real negative for me was the drinks prices, thought they were a bit steep, but then again i am from Yorkshire. Would definitely return.

We had a two night stay - Mon & Tues nights. We had booked a Superior room with a view (room 309) and on arrival the view of the harbour and Abbey was there. However I did feel the room was a little on the small size with only a little space on either side of the double bed which took up most of the room space. Had we planned to spend more time in the room it might have been a problem but as we were only planning to sleep there we decided it was fine. Towels and toiletries were provided which was a nice touch as were the biscuits and LOTS of tea and coffee.

The hotel staff were helpful and very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent. Lots of choice and very hot. We never eat there in the evening so cannot comment on food then.

There is no hotel parking - a long stay car park is near by (Silver Street) and charges £5.00 for a 24hr stay. Its a tiny little street at the back of the hotel - blink and you'll miss it. The hotel is perfectly placed though in the centre of Whitby.

Would stay again for the location and value for money. It makes an excellent base for exploring Whitby.

Great stay at the Resolution. Just off all the amenities that Whitby has to offer.
A really lovely building with friendly Receptionist and staff. Our room was spacious and very clean, as we stayed on a sweltering summers night we would have loved Air-con.
The mornings breakfast was lovely with a buffet style serving. Nice ingredients. We ate there the night before too and were surprised by how good the sharing platter and burgers were

We ate here during a short break in Whitby and we were pleasantly suprised. All the staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. I wasn't kept waiting at the bar to order food and we weren't waiting long for our food to arrive. When our food arrived it was piping hot, absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it. The only thing that let it down was the desserts, they could been sweeter as my vanilla cheesecake tasted more of cream cheese and I couldn't taste any vanilla. However it did all taste freshly made, not prepacked or microwaved which I really liked. It was all very reasonably priced especially considering the taste and amount there was. The music that was playing was a nice mix of different styles and was at a comfortable level not too loud or quiet. I would definately recommend a visit here.

Stayed in the apartment suite and was really impressed with the size and layout of the rooms.Stayed with 2 children who had there own room within the suite. I know its a shallow point but the plasma tv was massive in our room and had a sitting area within the bedroom, (which is a bonus if the weather turns) Good value for money, excellent location, excellent views, good buffet breakfast. The only real negative is where is no parking on the road, nearest parking is 200 meters away in a paying car park.

Room Tip: if you are travelling with children ask for the apartment suite

We stopped here for just one Friday night. We stayed in the apartment ( 2 adults and 2 children) rooms clean, staff friendly but a word of advise if going with young children, the noise not really from the hotel itself but from surrounding pubs is loud. If you want an early night due to young children its not for you. This is mainly due to central location around lots of bars which seem to have live bands and lots of the usual noise from people having a good weekend of drinking.
The apartment itself very spacious, the hotel did warn us they had a ticketed event in the bar that evening which didn't effect us. Good selection of foods for the breakfast and staff helpful. Would I stop here again, yes with my husband but not with the kids :-)
