We stayed in Whitby for a few days and decided to have a meal in the Resolution, and i have to say the place itself is bright and contemporary with plenty of places to cosy up if necessary!. The young man that served us was polite, chatty and very pleasant. We ordered our meals and really for the price we expected normal pub grub, you all know what i mean! frozen Yorkshire, instant mash, and good old gravy granules. Not at all, the Yorkshire pudding was home made and yummy the sausages were quality and the gravy was in fact red wine jus! It was delicious and presented so well. My only gripe is that it just said sausage and mash in a giant Yorkshire pud. Nothing about the lovely sauce or the fact that it was all home-made. Would certainly eat there again for value for money, lovely, lovely staff, and good delicious home made food. Well done you guys.

Had a great night away at the hotel last friday. We checked into our room which was warm and cosy and lovely view down over Whitby. Tea and coffee were well stocked as were the toiletries. The hotel is under refurbishment so not sure if our room was finished or a minor point had been missed? The room had been done in dark red previously and is now cream but after putting up the curtains they had decided to take down the pelmets leaving the dark red above the curtains and holes had not been filled in. The shower was lovely and warm and powerful but if you turn it on full quite a bit of water shoots out the side of the shower head. Breakfast was really good with lots of choice, cereals, toast, fruit, and hot buffet, with nice TALL glasses for the juice! ( this saved me revisiting many times for a top up)!!! Checkout was a bit unprofesional, upon ringing the bell at the reception desk the chef turned up and took our key. It would have been nice to be asked if we had enjoyed our stay and if everything was ok but hey it wasnt really his job to be manning reception. Although a couple of gripes we will return as we did have a great time and its a great location.

Room Tip: Pay extra to have a higher floor as there will be noise from the bar on the lower floors.

The room was clean, recently refurbished and with a nice view of Whitby. However, it is above a pub, which has live music on a Saturday night. The band played on Saturday until well after 11.30pm... Not the quiet break we had hoped for, but it is right in the centre of Whitby, so I partly blame myself! Also it was cheap. Breakfast was buffet and fine. If you want something special - I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for...!

Stayed here for a weekend away in chilly January with a friend.
Good bits: Really nice twin room with pretty view over Whitby. Clean and comfortable with nice cosy beds. Room had obviously recently been refurbished and was lovely. Very friendly helpful staff tried hard to make us comfortable. Good location for walking around Whitby. Nice pub downstairs. Street parking a few minutes walk away if you don't want to park in the pay and display. The room was absolutely freezing when we arrived - the nice young receptionist explained that the room heaters were newly fitted and had not been on long. She promptly supplied extra quilts and offered electric heaters if the quilts were not enough (they weren't) which were brought up quickly when we asked for them. This made all the difference and we were toasty for the rest of our stay.
Bad bits: The quilts the receptionist brought had no covers on them - they looked & smelled like they'd been laundered but were stained. A cover would have made all the difference and we didn't feel that we should have to request something so basic. There was also a large (looked like red wine) stain beside the bed which was a shame as the rest of the room was very clean.
We went down to breakfast at 10am which admittedly was later in the morning but still well before the end of service at 10.30. No one was around and we found the hot buffet which contained some vile looking congealed bacon and dry shriveled tomatoes. I am not a fussy eater and am not put off easily either but that food looked dreadful. No one approached us to welcome us down or tell us what to do so we left. Despite paying for B&B we ate out rather than eat that. It was really disappointing and would put me off returning if I'm honest. Its a shame as overall the place was nice but I don't expect to pay for breakfast and it be that unappealing.
Our rooms weren't made up - we returned to find a carrier bag over the door handle with toilet rolls etc in it and a pile of towels on the floor outside the door. Maybe this is the way it's done there but putting supplies in the room and making the beds is usually to be expected.
Also the door access to the hotel was often blocked with bar customers having a cigarette and the used butts all over the floor looked terrible.
It's a shame because by sorting a few things out and giving attention to detail this place could be lovely. But I doubt we'd stay again.

Stayed In November 2012 for a weekend break, no problem, staff very helpful, nice room, would definitely stay again, if anything is to let you down poss the parking there is no on site car park but definitely not a problem, as there is plenty of on street parking. Thank you see you again

Me and my partner fancied a night away and got an amazing deal on line for a four poster room which was wonderful. Even though whitby was quiet and it was cold and rainy it was nice to have time away. The hotel staff were friendly and the bar was relaxing and reasonably priced. The buffet breakfast was also lovely and you could eat as much as you liked. We will definately consider this hotal again maybe for a family holiday

We stayed on a cold wintry night when Whitby was covered in snow. Located within easy walking distance of the West Cliff area and I would recommend you park there in low season as it is free. Our second floor double room was clean with plenty of storage. The lift was out of order so would have been tricky for those less able. Heating was a problem in the room, the electric wall heater struggled to cope with the conditions and we were quite cold in the evening. By morning the temperature was acceptable. Nice ensuite with a powerful shower. Toiletries provided. A great view of the abbey, made special with the snow on the rooftops. Comfortable bed. Ate in the bar where there is a stage and a large conservatory type of seating area. Again rather chilly in teh conditions, but the evening bar food was excellent with chips to die for.... [Eat early and there is offer on the meal price]. We paid full price for the food and still felt we got good value for money. We were last down for breakfast and self serve food was ok - plates could have been warmer though. I would have like to have been offered a top up of coffee/tea which would have given a better 'customer service' experience. Otherwise very helpful and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Higher rooms facing the Abbey give a fantastic view.
