We stayed at the Resolution for two nights, Friday/Saturday; 9 people for a dual birthday celebration, 800.10 quid! Couldn't really find fault. The exterior looks a little shabby and doesn't do the place justice. We arrived mid afternoon and met in the bar. Check in was swift and without incident. Our rooms were clean and modern with an adequate en-suite. The cost of alcohol in the bar was reasonable, around 2.50 a pint and the same for a short. The atmosphere in there was good. Breakfast was very hearty. Buffet style with the usual cereal, continental and full english...eat as much as you like....The staff were on hand but discreet, pretty much what you want. The bar was open for live music both nights which ran on till the early hours. As far as I am aware none of our party were disturbed by the noise. Our room was on the third floor; 302. Everyone else was on the 2nd. Over all a great location, close to the harbour, restaurants and bars. Whitby was very busy by night which made for a great atmosphere if a little difficult getting served in some bars. Great food enjoyed in the Italian, Cosa Nostra.....the meat calzone and chicken risotto is to die for! A must do is lunch in the Magpie; the staff are fantastic and the food faultless! Can't wait to go back; just me, the hubby & the dog and have a stroll on the beach!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to be sound proof......or was that just the alcohol???

Just got back from an overnight stay which we both thoroughly enjoyed.
At first we struggled a bit to get to the hotel as there are a lot of one way streets! There is no parking at the hotel itself but there is a car park a few hundred yards around the corner that gives overnight parking for £4.50.
We entered through the bar entrance ( there is a separate hotel entrance around the corner) and were very impressed by the layout and style of the place. A very stylish and modern looking area with a very well stocked bar and plenty of comfortable seating both near the bar and up in the mezzanine style eating area.
An excellent location with everything in easy walking distance.
Check in was very easy and the young lady who served us as indeed all the staff we came into contact with during our stay, was very polite, friendly and efficient.
We were given room 307 - a lovely room with a view of the Abbey. Spotlessly clean and again very stylish. All the facilities you could need.
We chose to eat in and were pleased we did. The food and presentation were very good. I had the lasagne and my husband the Resolution Burger and we were both very satisfied and unfortunately too full for desert!!! A good wine list and very reasonable priced drinks made for a nice evening and there was also live music which we enjoyed.
I know that some people have commented on noise through the night. It must be remembered that this is a town centre pub/hotel. It's never going to be quiet although I must admit our room seemed fine where that was concerned. They do state on the website that there is live music so if you're looking for guaranteed quiet nights than that should be taken into account.
Breakfast was on par with some of the bigger hotels we have stayed in. An excellent selection of fruits, yoghurts and cereals as well as full english and toast. Everything laid out for you to help yourself and all of it looking really fresh and appetising. Tea and coffee is brought to your table. Again the staff are really on the ball here.
We got a deal through KGB which cost us £49 + £10 supplement as it was a friday night. For that we got an excellent room with a view, 2 great breakfasts and a complimentary bottle of wine in our room. Having said that I would quite happily pay the full going rate for this place.

Room Tip: We had room 307. Lovely view and relatively quiet at night

Good location amongst many shops, restaurants & pubs. Only a short walk down to the sea front.Staff were friendly when we checked in for a Friday night stay in November. We arrived around 10.30am & although we knew check in was not until later, we were able to leave our bag in the locked staff room. The bedroom was large & clean though some wallpaper was hanging off the wall & really wouldn't have took much to stick it down before it was pulled off. No bath, not a problem for us but check if you need one. The walls do seem to be very thin & we could hear people talking outside our room clearly. Our room was opposite the lift so we did tend to hear others quite a lot. There is music on every Friday & Saturday night in the bar which finished around midnight. The breakfast was self service & was fresh & plentiful. The food was brought out in small amounts often so nothing stood too long. Enjoyed our stay & would stay again

We stayed at this (hotel) for one night (i could'nt have stayed for more) i nearly burst into tears when i walked into the room, but as it was only one night we thought how bad could it be and at least the sheets were clean ! oh how wrong could we be ............. this pub/live music venu had a rock band on till midnight, and our room .......just above the stage! who needs sleep anyway.

we were going to leave at 6-30 am when the people in the next room were doing the do ! but my husband ever the optimist said, no we'll have breakfast and i'm glad we did it was very nice much to our surprise very good indeed.

Room Tip: take a look in the bar if your room is over it ask to be moved.

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for 1 night late October. We chose this hotel because it had such good reviews. When booking the receptionist was really helpful and friendly and we looked forward to staying there.

First impression on arriving were good and compared to hotels that we have stayed in before in Whitby it still ranks better for being attractive and clean. However, the beds are terrible - falling apart really and they creak and groan when you turn over. Also noise levels are high from the road outside and other guests because of lack of double glazing and soundproofing. Sleep quality was awful.

We were really looking forward to enjoying a meal after reading the reviews saying how good the food was - but it is not good at all, it was tasteless. I had ordered a pasta dish and my husband ordered fajitas but neither was good. Breakfast was disappointing too. The food was not hot and there was a queue at the toaster as well because only three of the elements worked!

However, for cleanliness and friendliness we had little to complain about. We would not stay again though because of the lack of sleep that we endured......

Enjoyed our 2 day break at Resolution.Very good location except for steep hill up from harbour but thats to be expected in Whitby.Large twin room overlooking inner harbour, clean comfortable beds and ensuite shower room.Staff very helpful.Breakfasts very good quality, help yourself to as much as you like.We tried the Early Bird menu Two for a tenner meal.Giant yorkshire pud filled with creamy mash, fresh veg, excellant roast beef and tasty gravy. Our friends had Gammon, chips and all the trimmings. We were all very happy with our meals Very tasty and very good value. We will definately eat there again.Yes it is a large Pub/Restaurant with rooms but don't let that put you off.We have already booked to go again.

Sorry for the pun. If you do n't know, Whitby is a favourite spot for goths because of its association with Bram Stoker's " Dracula". As we stayed near Halloween time there were plenty in evidence. The hotel is in a very central location to the old town with its narrow streets, pubs and fish/chip restaurants. We stayed in the apartment and had views across the town including the abbey and the sea. However views would have been improved if the windows had been cleaned! Staff were very friendly. The food was served in a pleasant Victorian room. We only had breakfast. It was self service but fine. I had coffee, for some reason only one cup at a time, instead of a pot. On the whole the hotel was good value for money. It is an old building so do not expect a pristine modern room.

Room Tip: The apartment sleeps 5. It could easily sleep more. The lounge had a huge TV and at least four single...
