This is a lovely little Bed and Breakfast, located on the sea front on the West Cliff, just 10 minutes walk away from the main town area. Rooms are comfortable and very clean, with TV, DVD, Drink making facilities, radio alarms, hairdryers etc provided. The breakfast was great, a good selection and beautifully cooked. There is a bar area where guests can help themselves to hot and cold drinks and snacks, record it and pay for it on departure. There was also a good selection of games and DVDs that guests can borrow. Internet is also available. The owners are friendly and helpful and were happy to sort out taxis, restaurant reservations etc. A great place to stay whilst visiting a beautiful seaside town. This is the 5th time we have stopped here!

This is a comfortable b&b with great rooms with en suite which was a lovely surprise as many have shared facilities. The breakfast was lovely so much choice and for some like myself who eats weight watchers products to fine them available at breakfast was great. The lady who serves the breakfast was always very pleasent and friendly the only down side was breakfast is only served between 8 and 9 which for early risers like ourselves was perfect but for someone wanting a later start to the day meant missing a meal you have paid for. All in all the wheeldale is a nice place to stay for a few nights but is a bit costly but with the flat screen tvs and dvd players in the rooms and all extras like coffee and tea restocked in your room everyday I would pay to go there again. The only thing I would have to grumble about was the car parking situation, Its one off those car parks where if you are parked first then unless the guests parked in front off you are in the hotel you are stick for the whole day. We had an unpleasent experience off being told to park in a certain spot only to come down to breakfast the next morning to hear other guests and the owners slagging us off for blocking a couple in the day before, this was quite upsetting as the owners told us to park it there and before going out for the day asked if our car would be blocking anyone in and did the car in front need getting out there reply was NO so what can I say to avoid this happening to you park on the road then you will not have to go through wispers behing your back.

At a cost of £80 a night for a double room off season, I confess that our expectations for the Wheeldale hotel were slightly higher than for your bog-standard B&B. However, bog-standard is exactly what it was.

Whilst we didn't really expect a sea view (which was just as well given that our room overlooked a wall), the skip, scaffolding and workmen were not a welcome sight upon our arrival. The rooms were basic at best, with an en-suite shower that had clearly been added as an afterthought and which was wholly impractical for anyone who may have indulged in a few too many Whitby fish suppers. The shower changed between ice cold and scolding of its own accord, whereas the heating in the room was almost unbearably hot. Perfect for eavesdroppers given that you could clearly hear people in adjoining rooms, and whilst the bed was adequate - the sheets were worn and, in one place, stained.

Whilst all of these issues were annoyances which we would happily lived with had the cost of the room not been so high, sadly the worst indictment of all is the overriding feeling you got from the staff at the Wheeldale that it was run for the management's convenience as opposed to that of its guests - you get 60 minutes for breakfast, and reception is closed at 7pm - so if you miss those times, you're on your own.

Whilst nice touches such as the honesty bar seek to add a spot of class, it is no more than your average B&B with a hefty pricetag, so ensure to lower your expectations to avoid disappointment.

We stayed at the Wheeldale for 2 nights in October 2006. It is situated overlooking the coast and walking distance to town.
The location was excellent and the hotel itself is delightful. The bedroom was very comfortable (we booked early and requested a seaview), breakfasts were terrific and the hotel was very clean and quiet. There is a large lounge on the ground floor for guests which is very cosy and well appointed. We had free internet access which is a bonus.
The staff are very friendly.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel to fellow Australian visitors and will most definitley stay here again.

we stayed at the hotel from the sunday til the weds morning. Found it easy to book and pay for. Easy to find, and even thought parking is limited, we were advised where to park to make it easy for us. We had the four poster bed room....and very nice it was too. Very clean and bright, and lovely and warm on cold october nights. if you want to 'stay in' you can borrow a video or dvd from the lounge and watch it in your room. The choice for breakfast was nice and well cooked. We would certainly stay here again.
