I first visited the Abbey nearly 20 years ago, and going back I'm glad to say it is as magical as I remembered it to be. I love the link with Bram Stoker's Dracula and the mystique around the site and although there was quite a lot of visitors I managed to get some excellent pictures. The visit was made even more memorable by a heavy mist which had rolled in and clung around the top of the structure giving an amazing atmosphere. There was also a monk wandering around when we visited and whilst it was slightly irritating, easy enough to ignore. I also found the staff trying to sell a year's membership somewhat annoying but these are small things and easy to get around; if you do nothing else in Whitby you have to visit the Abbey.

We did the steps all 199. The abbey is beautiful and of course steeped in history.spectacular views whilst climbing steps.

Went to see the Abbey as we had always intended to and we were travelling up the coast anyway. First of all the £1.50 per hour for parking is extortionate, parking should be free when you are paying to go into the attraction. The Abbey is interesting but not outstanding and the visitor centre is fairly sparse although very modern and clean. I would say if you want to visit and enjoy the Abbey try to avoid the times when schools are visiting as hoards of children running around did not enhance the experience. All in all I would rather keep the £6.60 entry and £1.50 for parking in my pocket

Worth the climb up 199 stairs for view alone. The walk round gives many different facets of town below

Like many others I walked up the 199 steps to the Abbey & spent a few hours walking round, feeling the history of the place.
