“Gothic England at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

The view of Whitby from here is breathtaking, the beauty of the Abbey is still evident, worth climbing the 199steps.

“Stunning historical ruins”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

The ruins are a beautiful reminder of the once stunning abbey that stood on the cliff top. It would have been an oustanding building when it was completed, sadly after being bombed in WW2 it lost parts of it's interior but what remains are amazing.

Well worth a visit!

“Ok but not much for your money, customer service poor”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

We did enjoy our visit but it is expensive for what it is the museum is tiny with no WC facilities, there is a cafe but if your not planning on staying for long you may not want to purchase something from the cafe just to use the loo and as we had just driven here from our B & B and therefore just eaten breakfast we didn't need a cafe, we asked a member of staff in the shop where the toilets were and she said we don't have any but you can use the cafe one's if you purchase something from it, later when we left and got back to the car park we found some toilets which seemed to be part of the Abbey/museum but were very poorly maintained I mean if you compare this English Heritage attractions facilities with that of the National Trust then they are really letting the side down.
Final rant the girl at the front of house where you purchase your tickets from and products from the shop had several large love bites on her neck which were clear for everyone visiting the Abbey to see this is very distasteful and not really appropriate for a religious attraction I am sure a lot of people visiting wouldn't want to see this given a choice, shame the manager had not addressed this.
This is Whitby though maybe Dracula had been out the night before.

“Wonderfully spooky”

It was misty on the day i went which added to the spookiness! The 'Dracular' theatrical production was a definite bonus!

“Atmospheric”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2013

An imposing location and the remains of a very atmospheric history of early to middle age England.
The guide book, the museum and the audio tour are excellent and convey the absorbing history of the abbey, the people, the location and its relationship to the town and moreover its place in English and religiuos history of England
