I found Whitby Abbey very interesting. The history it holds. The new centre there is excellent, especially if you are interested in the history of the Abbey , Dracula and Whitby. Well worth a visit.

loved whitby abbey, its a very professional organised tourist attraction well worth the visit and the proceeds do go to the abbeys upkeep, which would be a major loss to whitby, if it completely disappeared, but if you dont want to pay admission you can still get a good view of the abbey from all over, and the climb up the steps is just as exciting ,dont know why, we explored the graveyard on our way up, looking for the grave of pocohontas, as she is supposed to be buried there and the legend has it, that humpty dumpty and tom thumb are also buried there lol, we did find a large oval headstone and a tiny one so who knows
the shops at the bottom of the steps are alladins caves i could shop there all the time admiring all the whitby jet products, i have treat myself to a couple of pieces, plenty of coffee shops and restaurents to give aching feet a rest and chuckle at the endearing accents of the locals , a mixture of geordy and north yorkshire
whitby is a little gem on the north coast which perfectly mixes tourism with a working port and dont forget 'your must have picture' under the whale bones and watch out for dracula when the moon is blood red ,
it really does look reddish on some nights and with the abbey as the backdrop its a spookey experience

Beautiful atmosphere. One staff member was a bit unfriendly, everything else was lovely.
Great views of the town. Museum and gift shop are great.

My boyfriend wanted us to walk up the 99 steps to the abbey. It was worth it. All the headstones are weather battered so you can't read them and we thought someone very famous was buried here but Google said no. It was pretty atmospheric anyway
