Review of Whitby Harbour

Whitby Harbour
Ranked #7 of 53 things to do in Whitby

Reviewed April 24, 2014

We visited Whitby on Easter saturday after arriving on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We were disappointed in the town since it seemed full of the normal run of the mill tacky seaside shops and amusements and lacking in shops. Also very full with mods and rockers and their bikes. Glad to leave .

Great Harbour. Lots to see and plenty of quaint shops and great restaurants. Provides a real sense of history.

think cornish seaside harbour. nice eateries, the obvious tat shops, very nice little harbour and enough jet jewellery shops to sink a pirate ship. Great little boat trip around the harbour £2.50 each and a spot on time of about 20mins. loads of history and info all over the place. worth a trip if you are up in the north east.

This harbour is steeped in history, just so much to see and full of quaint little cafés and bars along with great Fish & Chip shops. If you get a chance to visit the Sutcliffe Gallery in Flowergate you can see so many photos of old Whitby and many taken of the harbour over 150 years ago with the tall ships and old bridge. Great to see this and then go into the harbour and pier to see it as it is now.
A great event is when the swing bridge opens everyone seems to watch and enjoy, it's a great harbour you will enjoy.

This was a very interesting part of the town, bustling with lots to see. The walk to the end of the harbour was very bracing and very interesting with the number of boats going in and out and then the views from the end of the pier very good. Disappointing bit was that the lighthouse was not open
