We stayed for two nights and had a lovely time. The hotel has been completely renovated by Wetherspoons and is very impressive being right on the harbour front with lovely views. The room we had was on the 4th floor and there are lifts, so not a problem. We had a view looking partly over the harbour and the abbey and some of the roofs of nearby buildings. The room was tastefully decorated to a good standard. Bathroom very nice with up to the minute sink, bath and shower. Lovely towels, nice shower curtain, clock in the bathroom. Good aircon unit in the room. Big flat screen tv - wall mounted. Hair dryer, kettle etc and two bottles of water. Nice headboard. The downstairs bar was very busy because it was a warm sunny weekend and full of day trippers, but upstairs was fine and we loved sitting by the french windows looking over the harbour. Unfortunately many of the staff did not seem to have been trained in good manners and were not good at making one feel welcome. When we checked in one of the duty managers proceeded to make two phone calls to their personnel department about a member of staff and her sick leave. The other manager who was booking us in had to abort our credit card transaction twice because she kept dialing out on the same line. I thought this was rude and really not good to be discussing staff problems in front of customers. One morning we ordered porridge for breakfast and it came uncooked - it was obvious that the oats were raw and it was not hot. We sent it back and got the same result again. A discussion with the girl serving showed that they could follow instructions but not use their own judgement to modify in the light of poor results! The next morning I stood at the bar waiting to be served whilst a member of staff served herself a drink and then walked away without even a nod to acknowlege me. Other staff from the kitchen had to go and find someone to serve me. They are advertising for bar staff, so hopefully they can resolve their teething troubles. All I can say is that as the Angel Hotel is one of their new flagship hotels (and charging top prices for food and drink), they should be making more of an effort to make their customers happy.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a luxury room if you want a guaranteed harbour view, but dont be surprised if you are kept awake until after 1am by drinkers outside. Seagulls are noisy too.

Stayed here for one night with another couple on 3rd August, I had booked 2 luxury rooms back in April and requested that they were next to each other.. We checked in at 2pm and were blown away by out rooms , both overlooking the harbour with our own balconies , spotless rooms, very large with flat screen TV, tea coffee biscuits, bottled water. The rooms were very tastefully decorated. (Rooms 204 1nd 205). We found the staff very helpful and very impressed by the food and especially the full English breakfast. Would definitely return to the Angel again.

Room Tip: choose rooms 204 or 205 with balcony and fab views

Visited here for lunch on a recent holiday in Whitby. The interior was nice and the outside seating was great to sit out in and enjoy the lovely weather and look out at the harbour. The food was quite basic but was great value for a family and was tasty non the less. I would definatley eat here again on my next visit to Whitby.

This was a first stay for me @ a Wetherspoons Hotel,i booked 2 luxury rooms back in Febuary for my husbands 50th birthday in July,on arrival we where told at 2pm that our rooms were not ready and to go and have a drink in the bar and somone would come and find us, this didnt happen so an hour later i went back to reception to be told they only had one luxury room and the front of house mangager was very rude,he would not give no explanation to why this had happened only to say all of the rooms were nice and basicaly get on with it,we had no towels or bottled water in our rooms,i personaly think the hotel and bar were very under staffed.I think in future i will give this one a miss.

We had a lovely meal recently and were very impressed.Chose the meal and drink option which represented very good value. The sharing platter was plenty for two and we had enough for two children too.The restaurant was very busy but service was organised and efficient. The layout was well thought out and we enjoyed the bi fold doors being opened for al fresco dining.Quiet cosy corners are available as is seating options for large groups.
