This is not your run of the mill, musty Museum filled with a collection of uninteresting local items but rather a venue full of a stunning range of interesting artifacts, models and 'special' presentations. Well laid out with many of ther exhibits having a shipping/marine connection, as you would expect of a seaport location. Staff are helpful and informative and there is the bonus of an Art Gallery (local artists) as you enter the building.

The weather wasn't too good so decided to visit this museum located in Pannet Park. Entry was 5 pounds each which proved to well worth the cost. I have never seen such an interesting eclectic collection. We spent over 2 hours viewing the displays. Don't miss this museum even if the weather is glorious.

When I was a youngster my family visited Whitby many times for holidays and odd days out, and my wife and I have been back a few times. Never knew this museum existed until found by luck - looking for somewhere to get out of pouring rain! A well spent couple of hours amid a vast jumble of fascinating bits and pieces. Seems to have a bit of anything and everything - if you can find it. An unusually charming museum with welcoming staff and some nice cakes etc in the tiny cafe in the basement.

An odd mixture of artifacts covering the history of the area. Like many of these places it is a quirky mix of old practices for charting local history. Think model ships and stuffed birds.

Lovely, quirky museum. Lots of interesting exhibits. Items on display in every corner, I would spend all day here if I could, and would probably still have missed something. It is a quaint, old fashioned museum (the museum itself is like a massive exhibit piece!) that caters for the interested and the curious. It is not like the big city modern "museums" with interactive nonsense for bored children and pointless wide spaces between displays. This is a proper old style museum, packed from floor to ceiling with all manner of fantastic and unusual things to pique your interest. Has a slight gothic library atmosphere to it, which I absolutely love. Definitely worth a visit, or two. My favourites included the Hand of Glory, ships in bottles (including a tiny ship in a tiny lightbulb), fossils, stained glass, Whitby jet and Victorian items carved from jet.
