“lovely outdoor cafe”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

this is a quirky little place. The scones are tasty and clearly properly homemade. they struggle to cope when really busy but its got plenty of nice setting and a nice place to wait whilst they make the food from scratch. dogs are welcome as are playful children. well worth a visit if passing and you fancy a rest and a tasty cake.

“A real family gem”
Reviewed October 11, 2012 via mobile

If you go here with a family of children, it may well be worth taking the children on a little treasure hunt first. Go to the counter where you get the food and ask for the "Children's treasure hunt". They will love it. You will be looking for little mice in trees to fairy doorways hidden in the roots at the base. There is a hermit cave and badger trails. Fantastic. And then back to the cafe for some of the fantastic food. It wasn't so long ago that this place was a wreck of a building, and now it is beautiful.

“Falling Foss Tearoom”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

Cakes tasted lovely but only hot food on offer bacon butty plus took 3 attempts to obtain a clean cup for tea from unhelpful staff! The view of the waterfall is a treat not to missed though.

“Very nice location and food, poor service.”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

The area leading to and at the tea rooms is lovely, with some really great touches such as the small boat in the water and interesting and unusual features in the stream and under the bridge. The tea room itself is also great, with a really nice play area for children, of wooden swings, climbing wall and more. Our two children thought this play area was fantastic.

While our food was nice (the scone was very good) the whole experience was let down by poor service and I felt the chap serving behind the counter was quite abrupt and unwelcoming. We were not asked how our food was later, despite the man who served us walking past to stand and chat and joke at some length with a couple who were clearly friends, near our table.

Unfortunately the poor service continued when I returned the tray of our plates to the counter but was not acknowledged and no word was said when we left. The lack of hospitality really spoiled what would be a wonderful tea room, and one which I was really looking forward to from the high standard of reviews.
