Lovely lovely place. Excellent food and great ambiance. Their ingredients are locally sourced, they have their own little herd of jersey cows in the moors from which they use their milk to make ice cream and clotted cream every morning!

The food is great and really reasonably priced. Three of us spent £26 on three toasties/sandwich type meals, 3 drinks, 2 deserts and tea and scones. WELL worth the money. The food was nice and filling and their home-made ice cream is delicious, as were their freshly made scones and cakes.

However I would have to agree with the more negative reviewers in saying the staff are not very friendly. What was really irritating was that you can only pay by cash, which we didn't know until the end of our meal so three of us were scrounging our purses/wallets to make up the £26 between us. They then told us about their sign, which was a small sign by their till so you wouldn't know you can't pay by card until you actually try and pay by card. The waitresses seemed annoyed at us at this point for not being aware of this rather than apologising for the inconvenience.

Having said this, the great food and really nice style of the parlour more than made up for these annoyances.

Diving into here on a wet and miserable day the staff were friendly and efficient and made us and our dog feel welcome. As a nice touch they even have towels to dry your dog down. The food and drinks were very nice and we enjoyed it so much we went back again.

visited Teare wood's with my parents and children over Easter. Whitby was freezing but it was sunny, we were at the seaside and my Dad loves his ice cream. This was the best, brilliant service and they even sorted out a gluten and lactose free sorbet banana split for my Mum who usually has to drink coffee and watch every one else eating ice cream. A real treat for us all. Thank you.

Having seen the review on Tripadvisor my wife and I sort out this place during our walk around Whitby. We were staying half board at a hotel so at lunchtime we weren't very hungry but the ice cream was just the thing.
We tried the wild cherry and single scoop cones were £2 each.
Whilst this is more expensive than the ice cream some rubbish places sell , the £2 represented a bargain given the quality of the wild cherries , the creaminness of the ice cream and the generous portion provided.
The best ice cream I have had in a long time, and I am an ice cream addict.

We have been going to Whitby for the past 3 years and never miss the chance to stop in to Teare Wood's. The first time we stopped in for a bite to eat we ordered a cheese and ham toastie. We expected the usual triangle with side salad so were delighted when it arrived as a rustic ciabatta with lean chunks of ham, Wensleydale cheese, a delicious potato salad and a dressed side salad. There is nothing ordinary about the food served here and that's whey we eat most of our lunches here. They also do a tapas night every Friday which is a refreshing change to the other evening meals available in Whitby. I can recommend the lamb skewers and chicken skewers. The ice cream is also a must. Ignore the temptations of the ice cream stands and make your way to Teare Wood's for some home made ice cream made with the creamy milk from their own Jersey cows and available in a wide choice of flavours. The wild cherry is amazing! Teare Wood's is a friendly family run business which offers great quality and fairly priced food. We only wish they did home delivery to Scotland!!
