“Comfortable 3 night stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2014 via mobile

Sunday-Wednesday stay. Very peasant hotel that is I believe under very recent new management. From the past reviews some people have had difficulties. It appears there is a genuine change in things, food was good, service excellant, room was comfortable and clean. Bed great. The hotel was very good but could be so much better with a small effort. It's surroundings were pleasant, good but with a little effort very good.
Don't misunderstand that the hotel was very pleasant and we were very happy to stay there, I would certainly happy to stay there again. We stayed in the wing room 19. We saw room 1, 4 poster looked great. Wifi patchy but so was phone . The wifi could be improved but you had to find your spot for a phone signal. Hair dryer and tv(limited free view) read and coffee.

I stayed in June 2014 with my partner and stayed in room 20. The hotel has a lovely grand feel to it. We had a very enjoyable evening meal and felt really welcomed by the staff. Really close to Sandsend and Whitby - we would definitely recommend.

I booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary, having spent the day in Whitby a few weeks before and decided that we wanted to see more of the area.

This is an old style English hotel but is no worse for it. The hotel is located down a narrow lane and is set in a small hamlet amidst the countryside, so it is really relaxed and quiet. The room we had was large, light and airy. The staff were excellent and friendly. All in all a great weekend and a good base from which to explore North Yorkshire.

close enough to Whitby but very secluded. Total country atmosphere surrounded by farmland and countryside. Dunsley is a beautiful old fashioned country house offering old fashioned values and service. High class in every respect from rooms to service, wonderful views and if you are looking for somewhere away from the penny arcades then this is ideal. Quality is not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for, and it is worth every penny.
Only one remark to note..the website shows a lovely tennis court, but it is a little out of date as it is now over run with weeds and has no net.

We have stayed in many Whitby establishments over the years and many have been good value for money and service however The Dunsley Hall Hotel is simply in a different class with a fantastic location friendly staff together with excellent local food and safe parking with views to die for we would have no hesitation in recommending and will visit again at least 3 times this year. The hotel has recently been taken over by new owners and it is clear they are very focused on service and quality.. many thaks again

Location along a country road through a Ford. Room quite nice. Unable to get mobile signal. Free wi-fi on offer but no details. Infact in the room there was no information about the hotel or anything at all ? Went to the Reception enquiring about the wi-fi. Was given the wrong information so had to return to Reception to sort it out. In any case our room appeared to be out of range so waste of time. Enquired as to why there was no information in the room about the hotel or anything. Was told they had just changed owners ! Oh that explains it ....NOT ! Not impressed at all. Breakfast was a shambles. No one was there to show you to your table, or what to do. Several other guests were wandering around unsure what to do. Where were the staff ?? Finally......success!...that you just found a table yourself and helped yourself to cereal etc. a member of staff finally appeared and took our breakfast order. On a side table there were some fruits etc but the croissants had run out. We asked for more and, just, one was brought to our table ! The toast machine was dangerous and bread caught fire inside. Again no staff present. We let it burn itself out which luckily it did without spreading. Have had better service at a Premier Inn.

Room Tip: Wait a while!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our hotel, I'm disappointed to hear you didn't enjoy your stay.
Unfortunately due to our remote location and thick walls we can't boast to have the best phone signal, however telephones are provided in all our bedrooms. Wi-fi is available throughout the hotel, and cards with our wi-fi code can be found on reception and in the bar. Any member of staff would have happily supplied you with one of these if asked.
We have indeed just changed owners, so all our previous room packages have been removed to be updated with our new details, and are in print. All I can do is apologise for this, however there are several books and leaflets in our lounge area with information on the local area and the hotel itself.
I'm sorry to hear you weren't impressed with your service at breakfast, and that your toast was on fire. It's not something I've ever come across myself, but will certainly look in to doing a risk assessment.
Negative comments regarding service are most unusual for Dunsley Hall, so will be looked in to further.
If you would like to discuss any of the raised issues further please feel free to contact me personally.

Kind regards.

Having just returned from a long weekend stay, i can highly recommend this hotel. The staff were kind and courteous and the hotel and grounds were stunning. We ate in the bar twice and found that the food was excellent and although not cheap, was reasonably priced for the quality and lovely comfortable surroundings. We found that the room (10) was a little tired and lacked a proper shower and for the hotel management's reference, (i assume that this will be read) there were 2 lightbulbs out, the door lock needed some attention and the blind in the bathroom came unstuck from it's roller (this has obviously happened before as it had been stuck back at some point with tape) as well as generally slightly tired feel. It has to be said that this didn't really detract from the room which was clean and has a comfy, homely feel unlike many of the modern soulless hotels to it but it does stop the otherwise full marks.
