“Nice but small”

Just returned from a two night stay at the shepherds purse ( goth weekend). Lovely quaint accomodation, the people who own it run the shop outside, very kind and friendly.Only downside was the inconsiderate guests below our room, arguing at 2am ( no fault of the hotel). Would definately go back. Well done hotel owners and staff

My wife booked this as a surprise for my birthday. The room and facilities where near perfect. Situated in a courtyard off the main cobbled street in old Whitby, This place is perfect for all of the sights, amenities and facilities that Whitby has to offer.
A great getaway, hide hole, and comfortable base. Perfect for a romantic stay.

The Shepherd's Purse is perfectly located off one of the main streets in Whitby. It's far enough from the main drag to offer privacy, but convenient to shopping and the abbey. We stayed for two nights in November in a small room on the ground floor. The bed essentially filled the room, which was fine for us as we spent little time there other than in the bed. The shower was comfortable and the room was clean. Decorations were a wee bit tacky with heavy reliance on white electric lights and floral designs. The price was reasonable, and the owners did restock tea, coffee and biscuits. Quite nice, albeit a bit cramped and less than warm.

My partner and i come to whitby every year usually for two weeks and have stayed here two years in a row and just booked our third year, 2011 room 2 and 2012 room 3. I have to say that i just wish we had known about this little hideaway when we first started going to Whitby in 2007. The staff have been more than helpful and are very friendly. Never had a problem with them. I love the little touches like petals on the bed and flowers on the window, very romantic for a couple. i love the fact that the rooms all have their own character. The beds are comfy, rooms have always been warm, and lovely fluffy towels. I love the noise of the seagulls in the mornings and at night, it makes my holiday and personally feel that anyone that complains about the noise should really pick somewhere else to go on holiday, seagulls are part of seaside holiday. A holiday yes for some may be about peace and quiet but i go to whitby for the beach the noise the smell the magic. The courtyard is lovely in the evenings with or without a drink. i really do love the place. Try it. Also visit their shop and try the apricot wine it is devine and chocolate cookies. Cant wait to get back.

Room Tip: Rooms above have access to private or shared balcony.

Found this accommodation trawling through google. We previously stayed next door last year, at Sanders Yard.

We travelled on 16th November for two nights, and booked the best room - which is Room 5. It cost £150 for both of us, room only, for two nights.

Previous to booking, spoke to the staff with queries, and they were more than accommodating and informative.

Room was lovely - had a four poster bed and corner bath suite. Very quaint courtyard up to the way to the room, and our room had its own little balcony with table and chairs.

Lovely complimentary bath products to use, and fresh flowers in the bedroom, which was a lovely touch. Room also cleaned on both days. Very very clean.

Location was fantastic.

Would definately stay here again.

Could be really nice with some tweeking and loving care. We stayed in the honeymoon suite, good job it wasn't as it was too cold to get undressed, the room was freezing, we complained about the cold and a fire appeared on the day we were leaving with our bags. We had half dead flowers in the room and on the balcony ( the good intention was there just not continued through ). I booked the room according to their wonderful description and pictures of their coutryard and although autumn was setting in the courtyard was dead and a disgrace, yet again the thought was there but not carried through, it just needed looking after like Sanders yard next to it, they were out planting and hanging lanterns while we were there. It actually looked like they were too busy with the shop and need help with the B&B side. The door on the landing kept opening as it wouldn't close properly which added to the cold and the double doors in the room didn't close properly and the bath panel was broken. Lovely scheme but needs finishing touches, has an unloved feel about it which is sad as it could be so nice. When we handed the keys in the lady just blanked us and didn't ask us how our stay was (as she knew we weren't happy ) and there was no friendliness or please come again .

Room Tip: Go to Sanders Yard or take your thermals.
