“Quiet & luxurious”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

We had a fab few days at the Raithwaite recently. The hotel is secluded well away from the main road with very good facilities and a very nice pool.
Service was excellent & the food very good indeed.
It is a surprisingly modern building and it was rather quiet in the bar area, the only criticism would be that it lacked a little atmosphere but then we find this with most new hotels. Despite that we would definately go back there.
Its a couple of miles outside Whitby & the taxi in is about £8.

We had a one night stay here (in the main hotel). The weather was appalling (storms, wind, rain) so instead of having a long walk in the afternoon before dinner, we headed to the spa where it was warm and blissfully quiet. We had the whole place to ourselves. It was nice to be staying actually in the main hotel building as we could go directly from our room by elevator to the pool in our robes/slippers.

Before dinner we popped into the bar. It started off quiet but then a large party arrived (the road to Whitby was shut and so their Xmas party was hastily re-arranged to take place in Brace restaurant) so suddenly a quiet dining room turned into a venue for a party of about 40 people. But it was actually fine and we were seated in a separate area where it was slightly quieter. We enjoyed our dinner. After a good nights sleep we ate a delicious breakfast. The poached/stewed rhubarb on the buffet was lovely. Service throughout was excellent and really friendly.

We had booked and prepaid for our stay some time in advance at a very good price. Although we spent a fair bit on pre dinner drinks, wine and dinner, it still worked out extremely good value for money.

Raithwaite Hall Hotel and Spa is a little bit special. Located in its own grounds set well back from the A174 heading west out of Whitby, it's a quiet and luxuriously appointed retreat. Arriving first at the main hotel building, we were courteously redirected to the freshly completed Keep where our room was located. Light, airy and modern inside, The Keep is new but not without character, a large central atrium housing its bar and dining areas. Located on the lower ground floor, our bedroom and bathroom suite was well sized, tastefully decorated, clean and, it must be said, remarkably warm. Whilst this warmth may have been almost unbearable at the height of a decent British summer, by a damp and slightly chilly September it was much appreciated. We spent both our evenings at Raithwaite in the main hotel building, a short uphill walk from The Keep, where an excellent spa, swimming pool and gym are located. Although we didn't dine at the hotel's restaurant, the Brace, the quiet and relaxing Poacher's Bar was a fine place to while away the time, with a good menu, some quality beers, and - importantly - a good selection of board games..! Breakfast was superb, with a cooked full English supplemented by a varied and bountiful buffet, probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever experienced. Throw into the mix the hotel staff's warm and friendly welcome, effortlessly sustained for the duration of our stay, and you've got pretty much all the ingredients for the perfect hotel experience. Raithwaite may not be the cheapest place to stay, but it offers good value and is well worth the price for the quality of the accommodation, facilities and service available. One of these days we will return...

Wow, what a fantastic experience. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and booked a two bedroom luxury cottage for three nights - the cost between the four of us worked very reasonably indeed. The location is ideal, not far from the beach and about a mile and a half to Whitby town centre (£5.50 cab journey). The cottage was fantastic, newly constructed with everything provided - no need to bring anything from home!, the decor, furniture and fittings are of the highest quality - very comfortable indeed. There is lots to do at the hotel and the short journey to Whitby makes it an ideal weekend retreat. 'The Keep' is a quiet bar restaurant area of the hotel that oozes quality, service is fantastic an a nice place for a quiet chat over a drink/coffee. 'poachers bar' in the main building is ideal for an evening drink prior to having quality food in the delightful restaurant. We had full English breakfast every morning, the staff provided excellent service and were very friendly, the breakfast was top notch. We had Sunday Lunch in the conservatory, very reasonably priced and again the food and service were of the highest order. The Spa, gymnasium and swimming area is ideal for a relaxing morning with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna available included in the room rate. The girls enjoyed some spa treatments which were reasonably priced and very good. This was an unforgettable weekend break, luxury living and service with a smile. Whitby is a lovely place, out highlights included: visits to Robin Hood Bay, Runswick Bay, a walk around the town, steps to the church and museum, ghost walk and of course Fish and Chips at Magpies!

Room Tip: The cottages represent great value for money if you are travelling with friends/family

The thing that marks this hotel is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff- which mattered more to me since on this occasion I was travelling alone. I had to change rooms just after arrival since the WiFi didn't work at all in my top-floor room, but the staff were most accommodating and helpful. The hotel has everything you need and delivered at a good quality.

I ate in all three nights, once in the bar, twice in the dining room. In my experience to food was uneven; poor the first night, mediocre the second, and just when you're writing them off, on my last night- the first of a new menu - from somewhere they pulled out a remarkable improvement, and if I were to find out that the real chef had the Sunday and Monday evenings off then I wouldn't be surprised. Certainly my final meal was really enjoyable.

Can't comment on breakfast since I'm an early starter and they don't serve a full breakfast till 8.

But overall a nice room, and a pleasant hotel that I'd be happy to stay at again

Room Tip: If Wifi is a deal-breaker, avoid the top floor.

We stayed here on a spa break having booked in for 1 night with a 50 minute spa treatment. We were greeted by friendly staff at reception and the friendliness was inherent throughout the hotel. The staff are very professional and attentive. The spa treatments are very good too. Our room was very nice with a large bathroom with a range of complimentary products. I don't usually use these but I found the shampoo and conditioner did wonders for my hair. The beds are really comfy and the bedding is good Egyptian cotton. I shared a room with someone who snores and asked reception is they happen to have any ear plug - they said they would look and by the time I got to my room I was greeted with someone handing me a set of earplugs. The food in the restaurant is of a high quality and varied - it is nice to eat something different for a change where so much thought and creativity has gone into the meal.
This is a really lovely hotel in a lovely location; the staff are great but I do feel that although the rooms are of a good quality I did find them to be slightly overpriced but it wouldn't deter me from returning.

Room Tip: Room 105 is very nice; it has a balcony with a nice view but alas no chairs for you to sit on outsid...

I had read reviews before booking and had booked because of spa facilities. Visiting in late November I was anticipating poor weather. However, we were lucky because the hotel was fantastic and so was the weather. The staff were very informative and helpful. The food in the restaurant was very good. We had the tasting menu and weren't disappointed. The hotel was quiet as it was a Monday night so they gave us a free upgrade to a room with a view of the garden. We will definately be back and for longer than one night next tme.
