Elizabeth is a super way to see Whitby, and she has a fascinating history. The fare £4 was reasonable, the running costs are very expensive. We really enjoyed it.

Good way to see Whitby from the steam bus. Interesting commentary about the history from steam lorry to conversion to steam bus. Well worth a trip to see the power of the bus going up steep hills quicker than the modern bus.

We went to Whitby and decided to have a ride on Elizabeth the steam bus.The trip last around twenty minutes and during the journey you are told all about the bus by Viv the conductress who is also the wife of the owner/driver Vern.Elizabeth, originally a flat back wagon was rescued by Vern and converted into a bus (and a good job he has made of it) and after a lot of red tape was allowed to be used on the road and be M.O.T.exempt,we were told that she travelled to London some 500 and managed almost 50mph for a short burst on the M1 but was happier at around 25M.P.H.Charges for the ride are Adults £5 O.A.Ps £3 and children from 5 to 15 are £2, you can purchase various kinds of merchandise on the bus which helps with the high running cost of Elizabeth (£20,000 for coal alone) so give it a go its well worth it, bring a dog treat for Millie the brown staffy bus dog.
