“Excellent in all respects”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

We dined at Number 4 on a Saturday night as we were taking a long weekend break in Whitby. I'd just echo all the previous TripAdvisor comments. Excellent food, well presented, very good value for money. And excellent hosting from Maureen. When we're in Whitby again we'll be back - definitely.

“Last Minute Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Having been in Whitby since Saturday and having eaten the obligatory Fish & Chips, some good traditional Sunday Lunch cuisine was in order. Looked at some of the reviews on TripAdvisor and this looked a good shout after looking at the menu on their website. My wife made the booking for 1:30pm and we went with our daughter for brisk walk to work up an appetite. On entering the restaurant the owner welcomed us and we were seated - there were only two other couples in. It was apparent though that they were regular customers and after having a very enjoyable meal we would also be a regulars if we lived in the area. I had to start King Scallops with Black Pudding and a Pea Puree (£2 Supplement), the Scallops were cooked perfectly and the combination worked. My partner had Seafood Linguine withouth shellfish (which is what she asked for) - perfect sauce with salmon, prawns crab and al dente pasta. Elysia (daughter), had a bowl of olives - home made rolls accompanied the starters. Mains were, slow cooked belly Pork, Calves Liver & Lamb - all cooked with skill and the accompanying veg was spot on and varied. Deserts, Ice Cream for Ellie and Bread & Butter pudding for the Mrs - another Grolsh for me. Home chocolates to finish and we all had been well looked after and enjoyed the first class food - I got the impression that the host and her Partner who I think was the Chef, would cater for any type of fussy eater - nothing seemed to be too much. We will return before we head home - give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Exceptional service. DelIghtful food-beautifully cooked. £24 for 3 courses, reasonably priced drinks and complimentary liqueurs. Can't fault it! Go there!

“excellent Sunday lunch”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

For my birthday we went to Number 4, the first time in 18 months. Nothing has changed, the standard is still high, the food full of flavours, and Maureen, as always, was an excellent host.
Mum had duck, I had pork, both cooked to perfection and literally drifting from the bone; the poached pear with marmalade ice cream was a delightful was to finish, just as the melon with sorbet excited the palate as a starter.
Hopefully we'll not leave it so long before returning.

“Such amazing evening”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Such a fantastic place to eat food spot on shame my duck could have been pinker but that is me being picky. The service AMAZING all the little bits count and they don't forget any of this eg welcome olives/humus, home made bread, taking you drinks to the table, cleaning you crumbs between meals, taking your Coates etc. The food just the right amount, lots of taste, well displayed. Will go back without a doubt. Fantastic
